10.5.8 Update Released.

How to update:

install Disabler.kext

install this dsmos.kext ( a bit updated to be present in mkext)

reboot

create backup of Extensions folder. just in case:

sudo cp -rf /System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/Extensions_old

update !

good luck

if smth wrong with your drivers after update – u have a backup πŸ˜‰

some info:

for radeon hd 48×0 users, binary of Motmot wasnt updated, so if u used patched framebuffers, should work fine still.

for radeonhd 4870×2 4890 4830 users – you will loose qe/ci/3d after update, wait for proper patch.

dont remove AppleIntelCPUPM.kext until install finished, or it will stop with error.

After update done, and you have rebooted twice, remove Disabler.kext and AppleIntelCPUPowe….kext

PC EFI V10.2 beta

PC EFI is a bootloader based on chameleon2 source code, v 10.3 brings one new feature, a cd/dvd-rom reading driver for ide mode(compatibe/legacy and enchanced/native).

The driver based on mindrvr from ata-atapi.com.

it doesn’t work with ahci(it will not detect dvd drives in ahci mode, hard drives still work fine).

it’s beta, so its only for testing, driver may not work for you.

known issues: sata ports 5-6 doesnt work, so I disabled scanning of those.

plz test it if you can, in different configurations, and send feedbacks.

if it freezes at black screen with white text , before gui appears, make a camshot of it and post in comments, with you configuration (mobo model, which ports connect to device(which device)).

here is how it works for me, video was a bit edited to make it less booring.

to install v10.2 – if you dont have pcefi v10.x or Chameleon2RC1 installed yet, download and install Chameleon2RC1 (not RC2)
then just replace old boot file with new one.

so far it was tested only with some intel controllers, wasnt tested with ite/jmicron/nvidia/amd controllers

You absolutely need to insert a mac os x install dvd when trying it, if you want dvd icon to appear in gui.

Thanks to fassl for support.

PC_EFI V10.1

Just a small fix for booting system without DSDT.aml

system was stalling on motherboards like gigabyte, where bootloader fails to find pointer to acpi 2.0 table, fixed.

if you dont have the problem – no need to update.

bootloader – bootloader

source patch from previous version – patch

install only over chameleon rc1, dont install over rc2.

A small note about using aty_init for nvidia cards in MacPro

As it was discovered, to use PC nvidia card in macpro with injector (e.g. ATY_Init), need to have “helper” nvidia efi card

it’s 7300gt for macpro1,1/2,1 or gt120 for 3,1/4,1 , also it can be 8800gt

helper card need to have not less than 4x pcie lines

Main card can have all 16 pcie lines

such configuration gives MacPro1,1/2,1 the fastest gpu for MacOS ever πŸ˜‰

We have found the golden one.

We found a bios for 4850 which allows to have dual-dvi on 4850 in leopard !

Dont worry, no need to flash anything, its all done soft way.

just try the updated aty-init – ATY_init zip

you will still need to use dvi2vga dongle if using only one dvi, but its easy to fix it by using patched motmot (from patched framebuffers in patched_files from irc)

good luck

also updated aty-init makes osx to think vga has 5.0 GT/s link speed, which is normal for pcie v2.0. (PCI cards in sys profiler)

2.5 GT/S, is it really an issue?

Many radeionhd 48×0 and geforce gtx 260/28x owners with pciev2.0 compatible motherboard had notified they have 2.5 GT/S speed link for card (in system profiler -> pci cards)

normal link speed for pcieV2.0 is 5GT/s , 2.5GT/s is a speed of pcieV1, but, maybe its just cosmetic ?

here is part of output from lspci -vv, from pciutils pkg by joblo

PC EFI V10

Latest and greatest PC_EFI, based on chameleon2

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

patches added for better snow leo compatibility,

they include: emulating 64-bit efi pages, removed setting IODT://options by bootloader, changed smth in hibernate, for better ati compatibility (wasnt tested yet), by default it boots 64-bit snow leo kernel on 64-bit cpus, flag -x32 will force loading 32-bit kernel

known issues: boot stalls if DSDT.aml isn’t present.

to install on system with installed chameleon2 just replace boot file with the one provided here, otherwise follow chameleon2 installation guide.

GTX 285 flash success.

The Rominator just finished experiments with flashing pc gtx285 with mac’s rom.

good news – it works, link speed is 5 GT/s (pcie 2.0), unlike 2.5 GT/s on flashed 4870 πŸ™

bad news – you need some soldering, because size of mac rom is 156kb, but size of typical pc gtx285 rom chip -128kb, so need to replace it with 256k rom chip before flashing.

pkg has internal check for computer model (macpro3,1 and macpro4,1)

but did it ever stop somebody ? πŸ˜‰

New bootloader.

Recently found new bootloader, based on boot-132, somewhere from china.

It has close to bootcamp gui, nice animation Β and ablity to be installed to efi partition, it has own cdrom driver – insanelymac thread

it means ability to boot vanilla dvd with bootloader installed to usb stick or efi partition.

from comments:

it do have a build-in cdrom driver.
Here is a demo shows usb stick boot and retail dvd install.
