MacOSX 10.5.7 released
Apple just released 10.5.7 update for OSX.
to update, you can you old manual : manual
or shorter way:
1) make sure you have dsmos/appledecrypt and appleintelcpupm disabler kexts installed to /Extra
2) update
ich10r users – you dont need legacy kexts for ich10/ahci anymore, 10.5.7 supports ich10r out of box (since new macpros has ich10r), need only legacy ahciblockstorage, to fix orange icons.
Important notice, legacyhda may not work with newer applehda.kext from 10.5.7, you will need either make sure you legacyhda works with 10.5.7 or use applehda.kext from 10.5.6 (alc889a legacyhda from stickpin and friends need to be updated)
Radeonhd 4830/4890/4870×2 users – dont update yet, i will provide a manual for 48×0 series tomorrow.
its common instructions, you still need to carry abotu whatever custom drivers you have.
if you use chameleon, or other bootloader with smbios replacement support, better to make identify of your machine to be some imac or something else, MacPro4,1 identify may result in kernel panic, or you need to remove AppleTyMCEDriver.kext with this script, durring installation :
while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleTyMCEDriver.kext ; done
Good luck updating.

hi, do you know if gtx260 support in this update? or we still need to wait? thanks
This is a great notice for me and others i7 + ich10R owners.!!
But.. netkas.. please don’t forget the 4850×2
remind me device-id of 4850×2
there is not gt200 supprot yet.
Netkas.

Thanks!!!
great – with a ATI HD 4830, i await the guide tomorrow.
Netkas – thank you.

Again.. thanks !
oops…

Sorry
Netkas, you are absolutely right about the audio. My patched AppleHDA stopped working. VoodooHDA didn’t work either, but my backup of the patched AppleHDA DOES work! This is strange, especially since it didn’t look like the update touched the AppleHDA?
Anyway, the music is blasting, and I’m happy!
(This is with ALC888 on GA P35-DS3L Rev 1.0)
How about the Ati 4770? I hope they had a last minute thing.
update works fine except one thing:
the damn thing won’t let me choose the native resolution of my display!
the native resolution would be 1920×1200, but os-x just allows 1920×1080 – any idea? bevor upgrading the resolution worked fine
netkas, sure you don’t want visa card?
Does the gtx200 series WORK specially gtx260 ??????
“Radeonhd 4830/4890/4870×2 users – dont update yet, i will provide a manual for 48×0 series tomorrow.”
What about HD4850? Do we still have to use the beta kexts? Or are u going to provide a manual for it too?
I hope tomorrows guide is for AMD too, and I hope it’s descriptive!
How to remove legacy kexts for ich10/ahci?
Thanks
thanks man, im hoping we get some sleep with this update.
Hi Netkas ,
do you know what that AppleTyMCEDriver.kext is for ?
Thanks for hint with smbios chameleon , i changed from MacPro3,1 to iMac5,1 (better fits Core2D CPU as MacPro3,1).
I have no problems with 10.5.7
I lost USB support after the update, I fixed this by connecting over VNC and installing the Install_IOUSBFamily_kext_10_5_5.zip found in the iPhone scene
Andreas, dunno what its for, u can remove it just fine
Just wanted to let everyone know I had no problems updating to 10.5.7 without making any backups.
I have installed via Boot 123 + Retail 10.5.6 and has Disabler.kext in /Extra
Just had to re-install Taruga’s patch for AppleHDA & edit kext for LAN.
Unfortunately my 8800GT still requires EFI string but there are new realtek drivers for my onboard RTL8187B adapter.
I am using an ASUS P5K-E Wifi/AP with a Q6600 and 4Gb RAM.
All good on my end!
P.S. Thanks so much to Netkas for hard work and contributions to the OSX86 community!
On my Gigabyte p35DS3P i have no problem with AppleTyMCEDriver.kext and my info is
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro2,1
Processor Speed: 3.6 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Bus Speed: 1.8 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MP21.005C.B01
Serial Number (system): W87234JHYA4
Also i don`t have problem with new appleHDA.kext i use hameleon 2.0.
[...] Según el blog de Netkas no será demasiado complicado actualizar nuestros equipos. Ya van apareciendo sencillos tutoriales para actualizar. [...]
hey netkas, just to let you know, I have my Chameleon identifier as a Mac Pro and haven’t had any issues yet. Where did you read that people were having problems with that?
TyMDEC makes panic in rare cases with MacPro identify.
Sorry for that noob question of mine, but how can I change the identifier? I use the Chameleon 2.0RC1 if that changes anything. Thanks!
Updating on an AMD machine should work, by the way?
Thanks, I looked in that TyMDEC kext and seen there are MacPro4,1 ID in.
So i changed chameleon smbios as you told into iMac5,1 before te update.
I must use my 10.5.6 Apple HDA (with dsdt injection) , new AppleHDA seems to work a bit different. All tries of ussing same congif parts of the .kext (Layout IDs, Pathmaps) didnt work.
But thats OK as long my 10.5.6 AppleHDA(orig. unpatched) didnt make troube in 10.5.7.
Hi Netkas, I understand your guide except for the kexts part. Is /extra a folder of somekind (i tried a search, but could not find anything)? How do I install a kext here? And is appleintelcpupm disabler the same as intelcpupm disabler? Also if I have appledecrypt installed, can I leave dsmos?
Thanks for your time.
Hello,it’s safe update iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 with AMD CPU ?
Hi Netkas,
I get the following error after updating to 10.5.7:
boot0:GPT
boot0:HFS+
boot0:booting
boot0:done_
Absolutely nothing after that, a blinking cursor. I’ve tried everything: PC-EFI v9, Chameleon 2 RC1, making the partition active, nothing works, same error.
The system ran perfectly fine before updating to 10.5.7.
What should I do?
My legacy hda works fine(Maybe better) on 10.5.7, for alc888s…I made that myself
@Guest – update works fine except one thing:
the damn thing won’t let me choose the native resolution of my display!

It seems that even authentic Macs have this problem.
Try reading this article, I hope this helps with your resolution problem.

I did ipc 10.5.6 with
ich10, realtek r1000, patched USB, smbiosresolver
moved appleintelcpupm and appledecrypt to /extra, then used osx86tools to repair permissions, set kext permissions, and clear text cache. restart went fine.
installed update normally, and on restart, I get waiting for root device. -x, -t, -f don’t help.
I did a fresh partition and install of ipc 10.5.6 with

moved appleintelcpupm and appledecrypt to /extra, then used osx86tools to repair permissions, set kext permissions, and clear text cache. restart went fine.

My hardware is ep45-ds3r, q9550, radeon 4870
I forgot to replace the line Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext with dsmos.kext in ”nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1”
After reboot, stucked on Apple logo and also I can’t use “-v” or “-s”, it will hang on a very dark black screen.
How do I to recover ?
my drives still show up as removable on my P5QL-PRO ive tried IOAHCIBlockStorage v1.1.0 and 1.2.0 with no joy, ive also tried the IOAHCIFamily’s that contain them. any idea? do i need the ACPI.. kexts? ive not put them back in yet – dont need them so far. after this i only need audio (not important yet, got a usb card that works OOB) and im 100% again
I have disabler and decrypt in /extra but I see that AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext loads in system profile and my c2d hackbook still working. What does that mean? Is intelcpuPM really loaded?
i found AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext is loaded successfully
so do some other people in pcbeta.com
so i no longer need disabler.kext now^_^
///congrats, it will heat up your cpu.
Hi netkas,
just installed 10.5.6 retail on my intel pc and haven’t loaded any other kexts except lan.So how should i proceed and update to 10.5.7 ? Is there any support provided in this update for my graphic card?
My specs: MOBO:Asus P5Q/CPU:IntelQ9400/GRAPH:1xRadeon4670(512MB)/RAM:2×1GB Team-Elite800/HDD:2xWD2502ABYS(not in raid)/Using Chameleon bootloader for win7 and leopard 10.5.6.
Any help will be much appreciated
Hi netkas,
Where to get LegacyAHCIBlockStroage? Tried make one from IOAHCIBlockStorage but no luck.
Any help would be much appreciated.
///ich10 legacy kexts was posted on this site already
Hi, got some problem after update!
After the spinning at bootup, screen goes to blue (like it use to) but after that it flicks to black and gets stuck.. i can move the mouse and i hear sound when i press keys on my keyboard, but still pitch black..
Can’t really figure out whats wrong, works great in safemode.
btw i have geforce 9800gt 512ddr3
///congrats, it will heat up your cpu.
en,it once would in 10.5-10.5.5 i am not very sure
but with dsdt’s help ,it really cools my cpu now in 10.5.7! better than coolbook controller
some one even reports in 10.5.6 the phenomenon exist!
btw,my cpu is T5500
I used LegacyHDA via EFI part and chameleon RC1 until now. and after updating the only thing that broke was the audio witch caused a kernel panic. added to my custom kext cache AppleHDA from 10.5.6 and now it boots but I still don’t have sound on my ALC883
I have Dell Studio XPS Core i7 920 2.66 GHz with ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB.
I install leopard 10.5.7 in other partition and run fine, but the Geekbench test performace has decreased considerably compared to 10.5.6.
I install this:
PCEFI V9
DSDTPatcherGUI_1.0 2
dsmos.kext
AppleAHCIPort.kext
IOAHCIFamily.kext
OpenHaltRestart.kext
VoodooHDA.kext
Intel82566MM.kext
Natit.pkg
Patched framebuffers for 48×0 and 3870×2
Geekbench 64bit test:
10.5.6: 8852
10.5.7: 6581
Worked perfectly on iDeneb 10.5.6 with the disabler kext installed. Not sure why it has to be under /Extra though? I installed it there anyway but also in the usual place and loaded up with kextload.
By the way, does the new update make any changes to the kernel? I’ve been running iDeneb prior to the update on the voodoo kernel but I know the machine is capable of doing away the vanilla way just dandy. Since there’s a new Darwin under the hood it appears to be the situation.
Thanks for all the hard work by the way. You should definitely set up some sort of donation form. Also, comments like this really make me wonder how to organize all this information somehow. Usually you have to sift through tons of useless comments before finding something useful; same way on forums.
Hi. I assume the script
while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleTyMCEDriver.kext ; done
is to be executed in the Terminal. Why does it have to be removed during installation and not after the 10.5.7 update (I use the combo). It doesn’t automatically restart after installation anyway, you still have to press the Restart button when it prompts. Thanks in advance.
Gbu,
Alvin
becouse if it will be loaded durring system works (and it will, if it wasnt present before) – ohai system panic.
Hi. There should be at least three kexts in the Extras folder? Namely:
1. dsmos or appledecrypt
2. appleintelcpupm
3. disabler
Or the disabler kext is not included. Where is dsmos.kext found? If you install Chameleon 2, do you have to install these kexts in the /Extras/Extensions folder? If you had four kexts including dsmos, would there be a problem?
Thanks in advance. Gbu.
Hey netkas, You said I must have some files you specified in /Extra but I don’t have that folder and I don’t know where to get these files. Please Help Me
////Use goooogle luuukke….
Here is how I did a successful iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 upgrade:
cp -R /System/Libraries/Extensions/IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext /Extra
cp -R /System/Libraries/Extensions/AppleDecrypt.kext /Extra
cp -R /System/Libraries/Extensions/Dont\ Steal\ Mac\ OS\ X.kext /Extra
cp /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.bak
Install 10.5.7 via Apple Software Update
reboot when it asks to
F8 and for boot options: mach_kernel.bak -v -f
When it is booted to the desktop, go ahead and mv /mach_kernel.bak /mach_kernel
Use OSx86 Tools to repair permissions, extensions, etc (check all 8 options)
It worked for me, using my Dell D600
I am confused about just one thing.
I am using iDeneb 1.4, and it uses AppleDecrypt.kext instead of dsmos.kext.
So to use the manual update method, do I edit /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 and replace “Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext” with “AppleDecrypt.kext”?
I really appreciate any advice!
Can someone write us for beginners how to install combo update 10.5.7 step by step? Because i`m newbe and i don`t understand what about kext`s and the others. If there was a step by step guide it will be too easy to me. Thanks…
