New signs of upcoming 7900/7800/7700 drivers

From 10.8 DP1 ATIRadeonX3000.kext:

0116610 T _Cail_CapeVerde_InitializePowerGating
00116485 T _Cail_CapeVerde_PowerGatingControl
00115f62 T _Cail_CapeVerde_SetUvdPowerGating
0026a770 d _Pitcairn_HwConstants
0026a7d0 d _Pitcairn_RLC

as well as Tahiti functions.
It’s not the complete driver yet, but signs of something being cooked.

Also, X1000 drivers are absent now and x2000/x3000 drivers is 32 and 64-bit still.

So you think it will take that long (summer, whatever that means) until we’ll see 7xxx support in Mac OS X?

A bit sad I think – I was hoping for sooner, but I guess that’s the way it is…

I can confirm that 7970 by itself in 10.8 doesn’t load extensions in a 4,1/5,1

Any hints about improved OpenGL support, ie. OpenGL 3.3 or 4.x?

does it look likely that 7970 will be native and in the new Mac Pros? i got a 6970 only because i thought it had native support to be disappointed 🙁 i hope it doesn’t happen again as I’m leaving this computer with my Sister and Parents that need a native as possible experience.

Which NVdiai driver version Apple ship with 10.8?

  9. February 17th, 2012 | 8:37 am

@Yolanda it is waaaay to early to tell.

And I sure do hope they fully support the 7970 by release, that would allow me to ditch my secondary card (6870).

    @Rominator

Thanks for this. I guess we’ll have to hope that GLView simply hasn’t been updated to detect the OpenGL changes yet like what happened with Lion rather than there being little progress as your capture seems to indicate.
