I know it’s a bit out of context but I have spoted the problem with ATI RV6XX and RV700 it is in the GA plugin (X2000) as if the GL bundle is loaded once the OS has already passed its framebuffer inicialization the OpenGL profiler reports an accelerated GL engine with correct values, GPU name and memory and also all benchmarks are passed with correct scores. So what is happening is that the OpenGL rendered pixels are not written to the Framebuffer through the GA plugin but the X2000 next works properly as when all the bundles are present values such as ATIFEDS are written to the IORegistry. Another important change from the 10.5 GA to the 10.6 (and 10.7) is that the pixels are written to IOFramebuffer instead of IONVDRVFramebuffer which could explain why the drivers were casually working in 10.5.
Please if this info was useful at some point (for a solution) please make use of and if not answer the obvious.

I have it but don’t know where to look: any possible signs of Intel Ivy Bridge support? Will be interesting to find out if there will be new Macs with Ivy Bridge chips coming this year 🙂

Woohoo is an understatement! I was beginning to think I was going to have to sell my HD6950 or buy an iMac. I’ll have to create a new partition an try installing the developer preview.

    This is great! 🙂

This id awesome! Does anyone know if 10.8 dp can be installed on hackintoshes? Maybe with xmove?

GTX 580 didn’t need any edits to work – simply “GraphicsEnabler=yes” did the job!

since 10.7.2 everything worked smooth, but with Mountain Lion it got perfect – Launchpad, Fullscreen, Mission Control etc.

though Cinebench OpenGL score is same as in 10.7.3 (lower, than 10.7.2 (~40 vs ~37))

@Agil1ty – Installs on a hack easily – pretty straightforward just build a usb installer same way that you would do for lion

I’m offering a bounty of $10 to whomever writes together an easy-to-follow guide on how to install 10.8 with 6970 support.
It has to work with the following components, but I’d like for everyone to benefit from it, so please make it as generic as possible:

    Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3
    Asus 6970 DirectCu II

    The rest is irrelevant.

@andy thanks.. still figuring out how to flash my 6950. Ive got this card ( )
Now ive got the 6950 EFI from the forums, but cant figure out how to get the bios of my 6950. Is there a program to do this is OS X? Or windows? I think iv got a backup from when I unlocked my shaders.. also, ROM creator seems to FC everytime i use it in Lion, and I dont have a SL partition anymore…

@Agil1ty – No point flashing EFI bios to your gpu on a hackintosh – it will do absolutely nothing for you!!!

That came in just in time Andy lol thanks! Im trying to install ML using this tutorial: however I get either grey screen, or white screen without cursor… Do You know Any other way to install ML Andy? Can it be installed using xmove? @Agil1ty – I suggest you read the forums. At this moment in time it looks as if the 6950 and 6970 cards are only working natively on genuine Macs. I spent most of the weekend trying to get my 6970 working on my hack with no joy – All I could get was a nice white screen with a mouse pointer (although accessing via screen sharing all appeared to be ok).

Aaah I thought netkas was always about hackintoshes, not about genuine macs 🙂 Lets hope in the near future a good guide comes with full support for our 6950/6970’s! Would be really cool if we could get QE/CI…

@Agil1ty and Andy, are you talking about the white screen with the pointer while trying to install? If so there is a fix for it..

Ok andy, so far Ive been able to install ML with my old 9600 GT (NVIDIA), but cant even boot it up with that card… still stuck… If i switch cards back to 6950 its the same… maybe DP1 is not ready for primetime yet… at least not for hackintoshes

@Agil1ty Odd, I have it running on 2 hacks so far (albeit with no output on the 6970). My other hack using a pair of 6870’s runs fine from the limited testing I have done so far

I have gotten ML to install with a 6950. You must remove the ATI6000Controller.kext and the ATIRadeonX300.kext from the /S/L/E folder on your USB Installation media. However, 10.8 boots with no graphics card support (no full res, not acceleration, not even any hardware detection for that matter).

    *ATIRadeonX3000.kext* that is.

Hi, I follow an instruction of one user, I have a hd6950 and don’t boot installation. Here I delete ati600controller and atiradeonx3000 kexts, and go on installation screen and install fine. But….. when install finish, reboot and…. f ck grey screen appear; ghost from 10.7.3… maybe. At this point, I suppose that graphics enabler help me; then I try boot with graphicsenabler no, and voila, go into desktop, but no graphics acceleration.
I have hacked bios asus from tonymac post, and only fakesmc kext, no other hack; but may vga 6950 don’t func on DP2.

    Any sugewstion?

    !!!!!! Partially Solved !!!!!!!

Well later of something read, i can observe another user that use 10.6.8 and netkas native package of lion enables full resolution on ati 6950.
My card with GE=yes don’t arrive to desktop. But i write at chimera promt pciroot=1 and npci=0x2000 together with GE=yes and desktop come on.
But something goes wrong, have’nt full resollution and no acceleration obiusly.

    Continue testing.
