GTX 260/285/275 on MacPro

Tired of waiting for GTX285 mac edition to appear?

you can try it already on MacPro, you will need:

1) working efi nvidia card (7300gt/8800gt/gt120), ati might work too

2) some gtx 2xx card you wanna get working

3) install Injector pkg – link

4) do not reboot after previous step, and install drivers from quadro 4800 disk (you can find them in irc , #gt200 channel, link in topic)

5) now reboot.

if you are lucky enough, you will get this, some minor glitches yet, like wrong ram size(working on it), but it works:

This is awesome! I wonder how the performance compares between 2xx series and Quadro…

Netkas, The Quatro 4800 drivers will help to build a proper kext for the gt200. I hope to have a new version with proper handling of the DVI ports.

Netkas – maybe the hard coding of NVCAP is a source of the inconsistency? To get my 285 up under snow with Core Vidia I had to give it the NVCAP setting from running NVCAPmake from a ROM dumo with NVFLASH. This gave me:

and once I used this it all behaved better. Just a thought. (Also correction to post above, my 260OpenGL result is on p1 of that mr thread).

Some notes based on my experiences in 1st Gen Mac Pro 1,1:

To run GTX285, needed 2nd card to be Nvidia with working EFI, ATI kernal paniced

    1. I installed the EVGA drivers F16, and Netkas’ package
    2. I used Lane Utility to set GTX285 in Slot #1 set @ 16 lanes, with EFI Nvidia card in Slot #3 set to 4 lanes (must be at least 4)
    3. I installed cards as above
    4. Upon reboot the GTX285 would pop up at desktop time, not before.
    5. If I use a 8800GT as EFI card, I can leave DVI connector on GTX285 and it functions normally
    6. If I use a 7300 or Quadro 4500 as EFI card, I will need to connect whichever G70 card first and then move DVI to GTX285

Really cool to have this High End card working in my 1st Gen, despite it being “unsupported”. Thanks to Netkas.

I installed my new asus geforce gtx 260 into my mac pro. I managed to get 2 power cables to the card (one from my old HD 3870 for mac & pc, 2nd from the optical drive). I installed the netkas drivers and modified gtx200 drivers.

When I boot the screen stays black. When I boot with my HD 2600 in slot 1 and gtx 260 in slot 2 (where it stays cause the power cables aren’t long enough for slot 1) I get stuck at the blue screen before the login window, or I get no picture at all. Booting with the ATI cards everything is ok, as it should be.

What can I do to make this work? Do I need to flash the card or something? If it’s possible and I do that, will the gtx 260 work in mac and windows too?

Any update on getting the GTX 260 to work on Mac Pro. I got the EVGA GTX 260 installed and is recognized but cannot get video out of either DVI connection. Have to boot off my Geforce 7300 GT to see anything.

I can see the card and details in System Profiler but no luck getting video out of it.

I installed the latest (2F16) GTX 285 drivers along with Enabler above.

Is there some HEX somewhere I have to update in a config file?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    Excellent work netkas!

Thanks to you I have QE/CI on dual Asus GTX285 even with SLI bridge connected… DVI works on all ports of both cards. I installed NV’s retail drivers first then your kext. My only problem is it shows the 2nd card having only 512 MB in System Profiler instead of 1GB.

Hello, got my gtx 275 amp edition to work on snowleopard with this injector but I have the problem for dual dvi. Used to have this problem on leopard 10.5.8 installition too but fixed it on leopard. On irc they told me about wrong NVCAP usage. Where can I find the correct NVCAP for gtx 275 amp edition to enable this dual dvi so dual monitor usage ?

I can’t get this to work with my GTX 275 with 10.5.2…
I get a black or sometimes blue screen at startup.
The only way I can boot is with -v -x -f flags before booting which gives me 1080p resolution, but no QE.
Please email me ( ) if you could give me some help.

You all rock. Just got a EVGA 260 working in my MP 1.1. Installed the Enabler, Installed the 3 latest EVGA drivers from the package, 260 in slot 1 (16x), 7300 in slot 3 (4x)… even shows the correct VRAM.

However, every time I reboot the resolution goes to something weird instead of booting back to what it was. Any idea how to fix that?
