Somebody, please, test and report about XFX 7850. I remember them usually works fine and it is selling for a cheap price quite close to me. :о)
But if it means adding IDs to the kext, I probably preferring to overpay for a GTX660.
As predicted by the great and powerful Netkas, we have functioning 7970 drivers.

Info.plist contains 0×67981002 (HD 7970), 0x679A1002 (HD 7950), 0×68181002 (HD 7870), 0x683D1002 (HD 7770), 0x683F1002 (HD 7750) but not contains by default 0×68191002 id for most popular HD 7850 it’s sad.

I have an HD 7970 and I just tried installing the beta update wishing it would work.
After installing the update I’m stuck with a white screen after the apple logo (I can see the mouse and I see that the resolution is the native one)
Can you help me please?

I installed 10.8.3 and done some test, my 7950 is recognised but I got white screen on login. Have someone the solution? I set my 7950 Gygabyte on second bios, could be this the cause?

OK I ran some tests and I have a question…
Question:
Is there any way to tweak the 10.8.3 drivers to work in 10.6.8? a simple drag and drop install didn’t work.
Results:
My system: Mac pro 3,1 eight core, 10.8.3 /10.6.8/ windows 7
Video cards: XFX Black ed (single dis.) radeon 7970, 3GB
ATI 5870, 1GB (Legit Mac ver.)
Monitors: DELL 2408WFP, 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz; DELL 2007FP, 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
• Perhaps Obviously the XFX 7970 does not support EFI boot
• It IS fully accelerated in Apple Motion
• With both cards installed, 7970 (and only 7970) is utilized for acceleration, regardless of slot position, monitor hookup (one each, both on one, etc.)
• in render tests with Apple Motion the 7970 renders about 347% faster than the 5870
• at peak output, the 7970 alone uses about 50 watts less than the 5870 alone, and about 100 watts less than when both are installed and the 5870 is idle (no monitors hooked up to it)
can anyone please share instructions or parameters that they got for it to work? I can get it to boot but I can only see the cursor and the screen becomes grey.

The truth is, all it was is just a user asking (over and over) for support for the Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards in the latest OS X 10.8.2

I asked a few AMD engineers to add support, and AMD and Apple said that NOBODY has ever asked for Radeon HD 7970 graphics drivers for Mac OS X 10.8.2 before.
AMD and Apple finally agreed to include the AMD Beta drivers in OS X 10.8.2 (which became OS X 10.8.3 beta).
It’s not rocket science. It’s sad that people don’t think you can ask AMD and Apple (and demand) graphics drivers for the latest hardware for the latest OS X.
All I did was keep asking AMD and Apple Engineers (over and over again) for help and support for Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards, and yes the “squeeky wheel” does get the grease.
If you ask Apple (and AMD) to write graphics drivers for the latest/greatest/best hardware out there, and keep posting (over and over and over again). The engineers will do it, if they see enough users asking for help/support for the latest hardware. You just have to keep asking (over and over and over and over again) and keep posting support requests, and if AMD (and Apple) see enough people asking for help/support, and you forward all those requests to the engineers, they will add support.
You can’t just be QUIET about it, you have to ask AMD and Apple and DEMAND that Apple adds graphics drivers support for the Radeon HD 7970 to Mac OS X.
If you DEMAND that Apple starts supporting hardware, then yes Apple will write the drivers for specific hardware, so that it can be used with OS X.
(Just like Microsoft does with Microsoft Windows). All you have to do is keep asking Apple to write drivers for the latest and greatest hardware.
Apple (and AMD) won’t do it, unless there is enough interest from the Apple Community, and enough people ask and DEMAND for it.
Please change/correct the title of this post to “Radeon HD 7970″ drivers.
Not 7000 series. Those are old graphics cards, and these drivers are specifically for the Tahiti Radeon HD 7970 and 7990 Graphics cards. (but the beta drivers are specifically for the Radeon HD 7970 Graphics card.

Normally I would sit back and laugh at ignorant people making stupid statements and claims, however I feel the need to say something.
@Nextech The reason NOBODY has ever asked for 7000 HD series GPU drivers for OS X is simply because they are smart enough to know that nowhere does it say on ANY box or website that ANY AMD Radeon card is compatible with ANY version of OS X. The only PCIe AMD GFX you can buy is through Apple, the rest are soldiered on to the main board. There is a reason Netkas and Rominator, and likewise this site, are the shit! Simply put we all know (except you) that it is up to Apple to take the first step. And they have. Now it is up to ” the community ” to wait for the final release and start testing.

I’m using a 4870 and a 7850(secondary) in my machine, but so far the 7850 still loads to a white screen with cursor after manually inserting the ids into ATI7000Controller.kext and AMDRadeonAccelerator.kext. Running on 12D44 currently. Once I get the 7850 running smooth, I plan to pull the 4870.

D50 still does not have the 6819 deviceid in by default
D54 still does not have 6819 (7850) native support. Driver support for the card after patching is much better now. This release now properly detects the connected monitor along with full QE. This weekend I’ll try to boot off of it. Clover r1014, no injectors.

Have been able to get Gigabyte 7950 to work in conjunction with GTX 570 using clover bootloader. Had to edit ATI7000 kext to Aji framebuffer in order to use DVI and HDMI. Now I have 3 monitors and fast OpenCL and CUDA. The best of both worlds.
Yea, I’m having great luck here as well. with simple edit of AMDRadeonAccelerator and ATI7000Controller I have full QE/opencl. Also full use of all ports on both my 4870 and 7850.

Is something changed with todays build 12D61?
Build 12D61 has new ATI7000 kext, not sure what changed but my 7950 works perfect, no need to edit kext, I just used Futomaki framebuffer for Gigabyte 7950 in clover config.plist
Thats exactly what I am saying. No issues, full features, awesome speed, all ports. Just added the 6819 to the two ktexts. Its a shame its not in them by default. Getting opencl benchmarks in the 1229 range (luxmark v2, medium scene)
