Have the MSI 4890 card. Installed this pkg but it’s still doing the same thing, namely main monitor is frozen on apple screen while 2nd monitor becomes main monitor.

do I need injectors or to toss any kexts?

Thanks a lot. It works perferctly on my rev1 MacPro, with a flashed 4890 (Powercolor).
Unfortunately, since the flash, the 4890 is recognized as a 4870 on Windows Seven.
    Is there a problem ?

As Toraz said I also just saw that aty_init is in 32 bits only and therefore not loading for me in 64 bit mode.

Hope you can make one in 64 bits also ? :)

Okay, so I get different corruption patterns with or without the -x64 flag, but I don’t get a working display :/

without, it’s white corruption on black, with it’s the grey and black stripes, suggestions?

and is there a force 32bit flag I’m missing out on?

hi netkas, i have the hd4850 but its not working in Sl, i added the dev id in ati4800controller.kext and installed the aty_int.kext, but when booting up in 32bit mode it says ati_int: card posted on 0×9442 and then ati_int: quitting card, and then i get a black screen with white dots and stripes, do you know why?

    August 19th, 2009 | 4:45 am

Okay, clearly I’m missing something here, I tried to install PC EFI v10.2 (over the top of a Chameleon install) and now the thing just restarts as soon as it gets to it… won’t even give a boot menu or anything.

If I redo the bootloader2.dmg method, I can get into SL in safe mode, but as it stands I’m at a headache of an impasse.

in normal mode just white screen…

    Hey netkas,

I finally have Snow Leopard working on my AMD desktop system, but I’m having an issue with my 4870×2 that I think you might be able to help me with. I’m using the enabler that you provided which works with Leopard perfectly, but in SL, it thinks I have a VGA monitor connected as well as my HDMI TV. This wouldn’t normally be a problem, except that it thinks this invisible VGA monitor is the primary. Full screen video tries to go to it rather than the TV that I can actually see. I only have one actual monitor, so I need to tell it not to find the VGA monitor.

    Thanks.

I have the exact same issue with my Sapphire 4870 2GB I’ve had with 10.5.7/8 with most driver setups. When Snow Leo boots, I get a seemingly random clutter of black and white dots on screen.

Is there anything I can do to to incentivize you to check if this can be fixed?

I have 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 working with a combination of drivers I pieced together from various sources, so I have no idea what’s causing it to work under 10.5 and fail under 10.6.

I got my 4890 to work finally by installing “MacOSX_10.5.6_radeon_hd_48×0_drivers.pkg” (google it) and then installing the above patch.

Don’t know if I got CI/QE though since system profiler doesn’t show anything about it. ?

Bummer since the screensavers won’t run ci/qe isn’t enabled…. back to square one :(

    The MacOSX_10.5.6_radeon_hd_48×0_drivers.pkg replaced SL’s
    *ATIRadeonX2000GA.kext
    *ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
    *ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle

By putting back the original files from the SL CD everything works :)

Just thought I should point out where I think a few people might be going wrong. I was trying for a while to get my graphics to work, but couldn’t really figure out why they weren’t. After taking a look into the package available from this post I realised it didn’t contain some of the kexts available from the older 10.5.x package.

So I managed to get hold of both and installed them and it seemed to work. You also need to make sure ATY_init.kext is in your S/L/E directory too. There’s a link below to the 10.5 package – use it in conjuction with the package available in this post.

So far no luck. 2009 Mac Pro, Saphire Vapor X HD4890 1G. All I get is a constantly spinning fan on the card and monitors don’t come up and the system profiler doesn’t even see that their’s anything in the PCI slot.

First I just tried the QE_CI_Exotic_SL.pkg, then after I read through all the comments, tried installingMacOSX_10.5.6_radeon_hd_48×0_drivers.pkg (which I don’t think I should need). And then the QE_CI_Exotic_SL.pkg again. I did verify that the ATY_init.kext was present in /System/Library/Extensions/…

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    ////what exactly you trying?
    ///flashed card needs only qe_ci_exotic_sl
///and never install leopard graphics drivers to snowleo
///there is no solution for flashless way of handling 4890 in snowleo yet

    Hi

I have a Saphire HD 4830 but this just doesn’t work :/ All I can get is a black and white dirty screen, even though I boot in 32-bit mode.

Checking ATY_init.pkg, it seems like there isn’t any reference to 4830 card..

My only way of making my card work is to use EVOenabler with a specific 4850 bios in ATY,bin_image but this isn’t working well at all and seems pretty dangerous as the fan is making some really strange noises.

So.. any help would be appreciated to make my 4830 work with your exotic pkg :)

If needed I can provide a gpu-z bin image of my bios, I thought the solution was to put it as a string to the ATY,bin_image of ATY_init but I didn’t find any way to make the conversion in hex string.

    Thanks for any help!

OK, So my mistake then? Everyone here is booting up the card in windows and flashing it with a different ROM? Are there instructions for that somewhere because I think I missed it! :) I’d swear people were saying you could do it without flashing, maybe that was only in Leopard?

    Thanks!

The only thing is, after I wake my Hack, the screen is frozen and the mouse is jumpy, so I have to do a hard reset. I patched my DSDT so that my high-speed USB ports show as “Built-in”.

I am having a similar issue with a 4870×2, there seems to be a “ghost” monitor which becomes the primary, and I have no way of accessing the main desktop/dock.

Does any one know why that may be?

I did a clean install of Snow Leopard, and it boots no problem into “non accelerated mode” once I install the ATI drivers, it does set the correct resolution for the monitor I am using, alas the main monitor seems to be virtual and I can’t access the desktop properties to tell my hackintosh otherwise.

    hi netkas
thanks for your superior work. I worked with 10.6 (10a432) and QE_CI_Exotic_SL.pkg (flashed 4890)- all o.k. Now with 10.6.1: there are problems… in iWork no text… windows flackering… So: will there be an update of QE_CI_Exotic_SL.pkg for 10.6.1 ?
    (sorry about my english)

Flashed 4890 MSI working great with latest update in 10.6.1.

DUal Display works…with one small caveat. There is a very mild instance of screen tearing. If you move mouse vertically over and over you will see that 1 out of 5 or 6 passes will have a place where screen rears horizontally at point where mouse intersects.

Oddly, this was much worse before I updated the package.

If I run with just the 30″ connected the behavior is flawless. COD4 ran fine. It only does the quick little tears when it is running both displays at once.

    Hi Netkas,
I have some problems about graphics
    Here is my setup

    ASUS M3A78-T Mainbord
    8 GB CORZAHAIR RAM
HIS 4870 1GB GPU with default flash (DVI / DVI)
AMD PHENOM II X4 940 Black Edition
    Samsung BW2233 Monitor

i installed 1.5.6 and tried drivers which is from by insanlymac (a simple guide for 4870..). In 1.5.6 all ports gives me light blue screen. On the other way in 1.5.7 the driver within ideneb 1.5.7 distro gives me a gray background with a cursor for 2nd DVI. (ps: also DVT2VGA adapter on first dvi which is closest to mobo).

Everything works great in safe boot. 1680×1024 reso and some shadows etc.

    Thanks for your helps.
