Updating to 10.6.1

Apple released osx update 10.6.1, it brings no new kernel.

Updating is easy, just hit install button in software update.

The update updates graphics drivers, so hd4850 users need to add their device-id to ATI4800Controller.kext before rebooting, its better to use update dmg for those users.

hd4890 Users – wait for  patch for qe/ci

And about leopard security update, it has no new kernel or kexts, so should be safe to install

Absolutely no problems updating here with a HD4870 using the dmg update from apples site. Nothing to do just sit back and relax.

No new OpenCL Framework, so ATI users cant run(without failures/very low speed) any OpenCL Apple Demos / Benches.

I just updated to X.6.1 without thinking of my 4890 … and now I’ve no image or recognition of my main monitor because of my stupidity … I’d like to know if I can install the old “drivers” for 4890 while waiting for the new ones or will it just make my OS unhappy and unwilling to function ? thanks a lot for everything you do for us 🙂

    ///you can, pkg for 10.6.0

Would the update for us folks still using 10.5.8 be the same?

thanks for deleting my comment. there is a security update for 10.5.8 also I was just wondering if the update procedure would be the same and if the update is a kernal update.

I was able to get QE/OpenCL working with my 4890 by using my patched ATIRadeonX2000.kext from 10.6.0 for now. The new driver in 10.6.1 causes a kernel panic after I modify the IOPCIMatch string. I’m anxiously awaiting your new patch. Thanks!

[…] to netkas, you’ll have to edit some of your kexts for ATI 48xx users. Do check it out. As for NVIDIA […]

Hi Netkas. I have an Sapphire 4830. After upgrading to 10.6.1 I can’t get any resolution higher than 1024×768 using your installer pkg. Any help on getting 1920×1080 (my native resolution) would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work!

Strange but fact – after this update i lost Attansic L1 NIC in my P5K-based machine. Kext which perfectly worked in x64 mode in 10.6, became wrong in 10.6.1

hi , i used this patch +evoenabler to get my 4890 work with SL 64bit.
everything is ok, but on osx the card seem to not increase fan speed when needed like on windows.(while gaming for example)
the fan always stay the same, and without a temp monitor for gpu, im thinking that this can cause overheating problem.
    any idea?

    Hi,

I’ve upgraded to 10.6.1 and installed 4890 kexts but all the links to the 10.6.1 qe ci exotic patch are dead. Do I still need this and if so, where can i find the patch, or can I use a newer version like 10.6.3 version to achieve same result.
