PC_efi + guid partition table = LOVE now

I finaly made darwin bootloader to work with guid partition table, used in real macs

It means, we will be able to boot gpt soon 😉

First, netkas you are the man. If it wasn’t for you this community wouldn’t be where it is. With that said, I don’t mean to belittle this accomplishment, and I understand what it means. However, I don’t understand what benefits it brings. Sorry! Can somebody enlighten me? I’m sure there are some. I looked around and couldn’t find any comparison type articles.

Because many of us have problem boot in single user mode
(F8 + -s) , it would be nice, if we would get pci_efi full installer
    package.

    Thanks for Yours big works.

    Geez, u’re incredibilie maan.
Just to be sure, does it mean that boot System Cd will be possible on ordinary pc machines . (?) Just by using bootloader stored on disk partition ?

Will PC efi support direct booting from Leopard or Tiger DVD’s? Can this support be added?

it won’t be long until apple themselves release an “able to install to every PC” mac os… they don’t release it now, it’s because they’re afraid the mac community will shout “boo”s to their own developer…

to end the battle between apple and hackintosh developers is to ship a compatible mac os for pc once and for all… and i’m pretty sure it won’t be long… LOL don’t ask me when, it’s only my thoughts…

    That’s really cool!!!
It becomes even better than i thought when i first heard about pc_efi!!!

@onto: Booting a usual dvd wouldn’t be possible, cause the dsmos.kext isnt on this disk 🙁

@genex: no sse2 will never be possible, expect the pc_efi would emulate the sse3 instruction set… (and of course efi+toh kernel works 😉 )

@thestevo: guid is the partition table of intel-macs.. today the hackintoshes uses mrb tables.. and now the guid tabels are supported, which means, your pc gets closer to a real mac! I hope You understand this now!… if not just ask

@YoMuS: I’d like to know this, too!

Netkas, now you have overshadowed Maxuss, you are the no 1 hero of OSX86

    THANKS FOR ALL

I think the question is if netkas could have done this without maxxus? don’t misunderstand this your work is reaaaallllllyyyy great!!!
and i think you can’t compare the things maxxus and netkas have done…
Maxxus was the first and netkas made a better solution!

btw: I’m talking too much today xD

    i hope booting a gpt soft-raid will work …
tried it once with /User, /Applications & /Library mounted with fstab from a gpt soft raid0,
worked and was fast too..but the whole sys on raid0 would be amazing!

    good luck

Netkas, you’re really super hero of OSX86 community.
Your works keep me checking this page 4-5 times a day !!
I am very happy to hear about progress, any progress big or small, about EFI.
    Please keep it coming !!!!!!

I guess using MBR partition may be the root of few problems
such as ..I can’t partition or format 1TB-size volume in Disk Utility (MBR mode), while it is perfectly fine for GUID … or the ….”why there is no startup disk in my *startup disk control panel* while I actually have a bunch of them” problem.
Or.. may be some incompatibility problem I heard such as… iPartition 3 won’t work with MBR scheme. (I read that iPartition 4 will, but still not compatible with Leopard).

    November 26th, 2007 | 6:57 pm

    Few news about it.
it’s ready, it can boot only guid partitions for now, i didn’t back mbr partitions supports, it have to be used with grub, cause only grub can load it and make it to use any drive u want
so scheme is mbr partition -> grub -> pc_efi -> guid (gpt) drive -> OpenDarwin system 😉 works on guid drive.

You’re a hero netkas. On behalf of the entire OSX86 community I thank you. You have achieved the objective we’ve been waiting for since the beginning of the the project. Your persistence and perseverance despite all the annoyances is greater than any OSX86 developer I have ever seen and thats what made you succeed. Congratulations to you and to everyone else. Now go get yourself a beer and celebrate.

    Keep up the good work.
