About GeForce GT 330M in new macbooks pro

Just in case you wondering what is it ?

should be more powerfull than current 9600m gt.

geforce 320m (in 13″ mbps) is half of 330m, it has 24 shader units.

And we will get support for core i3/i5 built-in gpu 🙂

Will apple release a 10.6.x update to support this new hardware, or are there new kexts?

Will there be a 10.6.x release or has Apple packaged these new MBPs with unique KEXTs?

The 320M in the 13″ is Apple-exclusive. The 330M uses auto-switch graphics with Intel HD. Does that mean we could be able to use this support to use Intel HD alone (found in most Windows laptops with the new Core iX processors)?

Getting decent support for this combo must have been what took Apple so long; I guess we can expect the Kexts to be even sh*ttier to work with than ATI kexts.

Today Apple updated 10.6.3 update pack, now it updates to 10.6.3 build 10D578, not 10D573 like earlier. Maybe it have some support for this new Macs?

Seems like mobile analog of desktop GT220 (same GT216 GPU, 48 stream processors), also cheaper and cooler than desktop 9600GT.

    method to installl MacBookProSoftwareUpdate1.3.dmg

    1. rewrite SMBIOS to MacBookPro
replase SMproductname to MacBookPro6,1 or MacBookPro6,2

    /Extra/smbios.plist
    SMproductname
    MacBookPro6,1

    2. rewire installed OS verion information to 10.6.2 (build 102063a)

    /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist
    ProductVersion 10.6.2
    ProductBuildVersion 10D2063a

i use Darwin 10.3.1 kernel, run Carkdale Core i5 and 16GB memory on MSI P55M-GD45.

What is the cheaper desktop-equivalent to this card?
My ATI X1950XT does not work in Snow so I want to buy a new one.

One that supports OpenCL and has good chances of being supported by the new Video Decode Acceleration Framework.

    Hi!
I have GeForce GT 330M in my Samsung Notebook.
There is one little problem… I’ve installed 10.6.3 retail, and it doesn’t recognize my nVidia card! I still need to have NVEnabler to enable QE/CI… What’s wrong?! Any solutions how to force OS X to fully use power of my card w/o additional kexts?

    @Cichacz

I have the same graphics card but in my acer 5745G, I made it work by having the following:

    1) Latest OSX version (10.6.4), should work with 10.6.3 also.
    2) Remove any other graphics kexts
    3) Use the Chameleon build from latest myHack.
    4) Use the GraphicsEnabler Option in Chameleon.
    5) Change the PciRoot Value to 0.

See if this works for you. Check the PCIRoot value by putting Wait=Yes in the chameleon Boot and then read thru the first page of output. You should find the PciRoot value to which nvidia graphics card is attached.

    Hope this helps
