OSX 10.6.4

There is nothing impressive in it actualy.

So, for now you can just use 10.6.3 update guide to update to 10.6.4

– carefuly read instruction in installer for a part of this pkg, when installing.

I don’t know why we want them to be working on this update. Apple released that this update has driver issues, sssoooo we should be awaiting a driver patch or a new update from Apple, because this one has apparent issue.

I say they wait until Apple fixes their end, then we can start our side of things.

I know this is not a netkas fix… however this is a working fix for now untill netkas releases on. Look for post #8 and you will find your answer. The post if from moskivirit.

I believe Netkas is in the middle of his exams, from a posting on Mac Rumors 4890 thread think they are a bit more important than an upgrade to an OS

4890 users on 10.6.4 For the time being just use the 10.6.3 kext. They work.

    Thanks to moskivirit.

Could anybody here give a more detailed explanation how to get the 4890 working with a Mac Pro 2×2.66, please?
It worked fine with 10.6.3 using Zeus, flashed the ATI and downloaded driver. Then I upgraded to OS 10.6.4 …
Now I don’t know what to do. I have spent several days with system copying, crashes, etc.
I need to get my Final Cut Studio going again.
    Thank you in advance! /Johan

Did you use Kexthelper to install the kext? If not, make sure the kext rights are correct and rebuild the kext cache.

    I also have LegacyATI4800Controller.kext in /Extra/Extensions and GraphicsEnabler=y in boot.plist. Booting is done with Chameleon 2.0 RC4.

    Good luck

    Hi Benny,
Thank you for the instructions above. It finally made my day so I could produce a DVD with DVD Studio Pro on our Mac Pro with 10.6.4 and ATI 4890. Great!

One new problem shows up to me: There are striking horisontal lines, mostly white, when playing video or any other rapid scene change. It looks like it is writing garbage in the graphic memory.

Anybody who has got a clue?

Hello Netkas, i am confused, Here it says that ATI 58xx is not supported and won’t work.
But on insanelymac, the AnvAl bootloader shows the 5800 series.
    0x10026898, “ATI Radeon 5800 Series”
    0x10026899, “ATI Radeon 5800 Series”

    what am I missing?

///loader and driver is different things

Hi magare, i believe we are in the same situation here. I am using Sapphire HD 4890 2 GB reference card. I’ve tried all solution from this thread, but it doesn’t work as expected. I wonder how did you finally to get 4890 to work? Which set of kext did youfinally to get it to work even after reinstall?

    @Benny van Looy
Maybe this sound really stupid … Where to put *.bundle and *.plugin files from moskirivit package?

As usual, great salute to all the work that you have been sharing with us! We are anticipating your next fix release for 4890 on 10.6.4. Could please clarify the issues around qe_exotic …..

The link that I posted above should work. Just get the files and install them PROPERLY in /System/Library/Extensions.
No rocket science here, just do it properly (fix permissions, mod, etc).
If still does not work you may miss some other files in /Extra/Extensions folder

just wanted to confirm that this trick works on Radeon HD 4550 from Gigabyte and bootsplash apple and circle are no longer stretched. Tried to boot Windows 7 DVD and it was low res 16bit colors or less and Chameleon was still stretched. – sorry for the quality, recorded with iPhone 3G

I have a Sapphire 4870 1GB Vapor-X card and it was working great in 10.6.2 with GraphicsEnabler=y only, but in 10.6.4 I needed to replace ATI kexts (4800,Framebuffer,Support,RadeonX2000*) from 10.6.2 to have the screen working again (black screen at boot with 10.6.4 kexts).

But even if the screen and the resolution are ok, there is still one big problem, the display is slow with animations and some softwares (VLC can’t even display video files), I think there is no graphics acceleration loaded properly. I tried a lot of version of ATI kext files but impossible to fix this.

I’m on SL 64bits , and the card have the ID 0x94401002.

If someone have an idea on this, thanks !

I installed 10.6 on my pc which is a Acer M7720 with i7 920 and ATI Radeon HD 4850 1gb. Everything worked perfectly, the display was perfect at 1920×1080 @ 60hz. Then I installed the update to 10.6.4, my pc connected by a dvi to vga cable, the resolution was the basic 800×600 after reboot, so I installed the .kext files drivers etc. from the exotic package for 10.6.3 using MultiBeast, then reboot, everything works great except:

I can get every existing resolution BUT the one I need: 1920×1080.

I tried switchresx but it didn’t work. Any ideas anyone?
