Do we need a new sleepenabler for 10.6.4?

  3. nekton
    June 15th, 2010 | 11:12 pm

Yes, 10.6.4 killed my 4890 which now shows itself as a 4870 and only has 1024 x 768 resolution?hope you can work your magic netkas! I see that all the ATi drivers have been upgraded from 1.6.10 to 1.6.16. I have backups in TM and wonder which ones I need to move back to get the high resolution?

Replacing the 1.6.16 ATI4800Controller, ATIFramebuffer and ATISupport kexts with the 10.6.3 versions got me back to normal resolution but the 4890 still thinks its a 4870.

10.6.3 to 10.6.4 Upgrade successful in MB Intel D975XBX2 but sleepennabler.kext = Kernel Panic.
Is there a version of sleepennabler to 10.6.4?

Netkas, you are a sexy beast. Just got my 4870×2 working, well, crippledish but working with QE+CI. Is there a chance that this card will ever see both cores and all 2gb of ram? I love it very much, but not as much as I’d love a bit more performance xD

Installed 10.6.4 via Software Update, rebooted to a blue flickering screen. So I need to update the ATI 4890 and AppleHDA.kext; but I can’t get the chameleon boot options menu to show at startup; because I set it to auto start; how I can pause the boot menu to try verbose mode.

Update worked fine on my hackintosh although it didn’t appear to update the kernel. Haven’t tried booting into 32 mode but the kernel is still 10.3

Installed the update on my MacBook Pro and it updated the kernel to 10.4 but that’s 32.

Sorry for my density, but perhaps I missed this with 10.6.3… I am having kernel panics, but I assumed they were because of Highpoint RocketRAID 2314 driver (based on logs). I have a HIS 4890 in a MacPro1,1, but I also see AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and [same]Client.kext. Based on the 10.6.3 upgrade guide, do I need to move those out in addition to running Zeus 1.3 tomorrow??

    June 16th, 2010 | 8:06 am

    @Nabil
Yeah I’ve noticed my system isn’t technically updated. I tried booting to 32 bit with verbose and found alot of ‘refused new kext’ errors so it’s loading the old stuff? It also would load the login window. I still get the kext error with 64 bit but at least I can actually get in and still use it.

I think this may have something to do with UDID. I’ve got mine strapped to SMBIOS which is in root with Chameleon.

  23. Akshunhiro
    June 16th, 2010 | 8:07 am

Oops, typo. It WOULDN’T load the login window on 32 bit mode (that or I was too impatient to wait for it) but 64 bit mode is usable but I still get the kext errors and the old kernel.

Then I have installed the combinated update to 10.6.4
After reboot the Apple logo goes to error like this:

Is anyone able to tell me why I’m getting these ‘refusing new kext’ errors? It’s got to be something simple but searching has gotten me nowhere and it’s doing my head in…

    Here’s the full error…

Refusing new kext com.apple.kernel.mach, v7.9.9: a loaded copy with a different executable UUID is already present.

Refusing new kept com.apple.kpi.mach, v10.4: already have loaded v10.3

This happens with a bunch of files. My system boots but obviously using the old files, how do I fix this?

Also waiting for sleepenabler 10.6.4. 64 bit great with pcefi 10.6. nvidia 9800gt 1024 fine. Just still having fun trying to run on duel monitor mode. have an extender for windows. But when connecting another monitor screen freezes. Thanks for everything netkas. Still trying to find my hackintosh feet.

    Hi Netkas!

After update everything works, but there seems to be issue with FakeSMC. I boot always in verbose and here’s one line which wasn’t present before 10.6.3:

I am a complete novice with a 4890 in my computer. It came with a disc with the QE_CI_Exotic_Patch 10.6.2. Somehow, I managed to install the 10.6.3. This time, I downloaded the patch and ran the installer. Now I get what I am assuming is a kernel panic. Any chance of a step by step walkthrough on how to get my computer running again? I found the directions on this site very confusing as a novice and am terribly frustrated. Thanks!

  49. June 17th, 2010 | 3:55 am

ATI 4890 using LegacyATI4800Controller.kext in /Extra/Extension and QE CI Exotic cards 10.6.3.pkg.

Resolution works great, System Profiler details look good except NO QE/CI(animations and images are not smooth).

    QE/CI worked perfectly in 10.6.3.

Where does this functionality get programmed in?

Point me in the right direction homies; netkas@carlnunes.com

Framebuffer on 4890 is fine with a legacy LegacyATI4800Controller kext in /E/E. The problem still is in the ATIRadeonX2000 that causes a nasty KP.

I hope this gets solved soon, keep up the good work!

Upgraded with spare drive.Previous 10.6.3 on 4870×2 QE_CI with netkas exotic patch for 10.6.3. Aplied 10.6.4 then Exotic patch before restart. After restart from original drive (10.6.3) installed ATI4800Controler.kext, ATIFramebuffer.kext, ATISupport.kext and ATIRadeonX2000.kext with kextutility in S/L/E in 10.6.4. It works again QE_CI, res change like previous but with new darwin kernel 10.4.0. Only drawback like with 10.6.3 and ATI_init no 64 bit support. :(

As much as I want the fix asap asap, I think we should understand no one owe us anything; no one is obligated to fix this, not to mention fix this immediately.

I may be off base, but the atiradeon2000.pkg in the 10.6.4 package has a lot of pieces missing that were in the 10.6.3 package (i.e. no version.plist and no _CodeSignature directory). So the kext has no signature… I would think it wouldn’t load.

    Just an observation.

After Update on Wind U100 afp don’t work – here is what I have done to fix this… 1. Before Update to 10.6.4 backup /System/Library/Filesystems from 10.6.3 — 2. Install combo-update DON’T RESTART — 3. Install atom-kernel 10.6.3 again — 4. Install working GMA and other Kexts again — 5. Install backuped /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare — 6. Remove User-, Lib- and SystemCaches — 7. Restart — 8. Repair Permissions — Hope works for other guys too

    HD 4570 run on 10.6.4?

  86. Neso
    June 21st, 2010 | 1:47 pm

Netkas, one question. Is there any known way or anybody that has enabled 4870×2 to work with QE_CL in 10.6.3 or 10.6.4 in 64 bit?
I have searched everywhere for a proof but i can’t find it.

Hello there :) . I hope a dont post a dumb question, but seing the link striked, I don’t dare to update to 10.6.4, in fear of my (non flashed) radeon 4890 don’t works anymore. Am I juste to much fearful or am I right ? thanks ;)

I have a flashed XFX e.0 4870 on a MacPro 1,1 and 10.6.4 killed QE and OpenGL. tried swapping older drivers, QE/CI exotic patches, etc. No Luck.

Rebuilt a 10.6.3 drive and migrated back.. stock apple drivers work perfect on 10.6.3, but not 10.6.4 for my card…

Apparently Apple changed more than the driver code kexts

DO NOT update. I am woundering why netkas still offers this package through the striked link! I earlier updated to 10.6.4 and can’t go back to 10.6.3. Now I am on 10.6.4 without QE/CI and I everyday refresh this site 100 times for a new working package from our guru ;-) Netkas, pleaseeeeeeee help us dumies

Hello netkas – I think you’re on vacation or doing some heavy disassembling maybe ? This time the 4890 in my MacPro1.1 doesn’t like the 10.6.4 update at all – I’ve tried different ways myself but the X2000 kext makes me nuts – Hoping you’ll find a way – Just give me a little tiny response if you’re alive – Otherwise i might think you’re not interested anymore ? Naa……..:-)

  92. June 21st, 2010 | 9:35 pm

    Hi Charlot,
I updated our Mac Pro with 4890 card from OS 10.6.3 to 10.6.4. I now wish I had not! Many programs like Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Aperture refuse to start after the upgrade due to lacking graphic card drivers. I need to downgrade to 10.6.3 if we cannot get a working solution within a few days. So hold back with the upgrade! There isn’t much you will see inside the upgrade anyway.
Hope Netkas will do his magic again!! / Johan

el Charlot – I think you have a good plan. I patched OSX to 10.6.4 and have tried everything I can think of to get my 4890 working. It’s a second card in my system so I’m not DOA without it. Best I’ve been able to do is to use the 10.6.2 kext files and both screens go blue at boot but then the system hangs at that point. I am patiently waiting for netkas to post a solution.

    June 22nd, 2010 | 4:54 am

Looks like Apple botched the drivers anyways. So there wont be much point in getting 10.6.4 to work anyways. We will have to wait for 10.6.5, or for those driver updates.

  95. June 22nd, 2010 | 10:12 am

Hey el charlot! Netkas is probably working hard on a fix here, but meantime there is a solution on getting the 4890 working with the 10.6.4 using one of the old kexts. Go to macrumors.com and read the ultimate 4890 topic. JFYI.

    > I hope a dont post a dumb question, but seing the link striked, I don’t dare to update to 10.6.4

You’re right on this one. I just installed it (I also have a 4890) and I experienced a kernel panic at installation. Since then, I systematically have a kernel panic at start up. Add to go back to my old video card to be able to boot.

Plz Netkas make a solution for Mac Pro users.. I can’t use 10.6.4 with my 4890 1Gb and your .pkg and fix for 10.6.3 :-(

I don’t know why we want them to be working on this update. Apple released that this update has driver issues, sssoooo we should be awaiting a driver patch or a new update from Apple, because this one has apparent issue.

I say they wait until Apple fixes their end, then we can start our side of things.

  102. June 22nd, 2010 | 11:12 pm

I know this is not a netkas fix… however this is a working fix for now untill netkas releases on. Look for post #8 and you will find your answer. The post if from moskivirit.

Did you use Kexthelper to install the kext? If not, make sure the kext rights are correct and rebuild the kext cache.

    I also have LegacyATI4800Controller.kext in /Extra/Extensions and GraphicsEnabler=y in boot.plist. Booting is done with Chameleon 2.0 RC4.

The link that I posted above should work. Just get the files and install them PROPERLY in /System/Library/Extensions.
No rocket science here, just do it properly (fix permissions, mod, etc).
If still does not work you may miss some other files in /Extra/Extensions folder

I have a Sapphire 4870 1GB Vapor-X card and it was working great in 10.6.2 with GraphicsEnabler=y only, but in 10.6.4 I needed to replace ATI kexts (4800,Framebuffer,Support,RadeonX2000*) from 10.6.2 to have the screen working again (black screen at boot with 10.6.4 kexts).

But even if the screen and the resolution are ok, there is still one big problem, the display is slow with animations and some softwares (VLC can’t even display video files), I think there is no graphics acceleration loaded properly. I tried a lot of version of ATI kext files but impossible to fix this.

I’m on SL 64bits , and the card have the ID 0×94401002.

If someone have an idea on this, thanks !

I installed 10.6 on my pc which is a Acer M7720 with i7 920 and ATI Radeon HD 4850 1gb. Everything worked perfectly, the display was perfect at 1920×1080 @ 60hz. Then I installed the update to 10.6.4, my pc connected by a dvi to vga cable, the resolution was the basic 800×600 after reboot, so I installed the .kext files drivers etc. from the exotic package for 10.6.3 using MultiBeast, then reboot, everything works great except:

I can get every existing resolution BUT the one I need: 1920×1080.
