5770 and 5870 in MacPro and rom

I used efi rom from new imac’s 5750 and original 5770 pc rom to create custom hybrid rom.

It works in osx, no injector used.

Since I used mobility ATI rom we have nothing from card on boot, but once osx booted – the card works.

Both dvi ports work, displayport works too, 3 displays doesnt work atm.

Once we have macpro’s 5770/5870 roms boot screen should work too. But for now you can already enjoy 5770 in your macpro.

It only works on 2008+ macpros, because efi is 64-bit now, not ebc anymore.

screenshots and the rom:

glview

glview

before flashing you also need to install driver.

Also, 5870 is working too in macpro.

I was looking at Sapphire’s webpage, and I see that they have that Vapor-X version of the card. Is that just as good as a regular Sapphire 5770? I would think it’s the same card, with just another cooling. Anyone know about this?

“Since I used mobility ATI rom we have nothing from card on boot, but once osx booted – the card works.” Does that mean mobility 5xxx support is on the way? I think I’m misreading?

///you are misreading, btw, imacs use displayport to connect internal display to their mobility card, and most laptops out there with aty mobility uses LVDS, which isnt supported by ati osx drivers

Netkas, your ATI_init and drivers and instructions worked on 5750 for me. Thank you. I tried Vervet framebuffer, as you stated, but it boots to empty extended desktop. Tried to get a VESA res at boot prompt, but no go. Are your instructions above applicable to 5750. I’d like to try to flash rom and apply your info, it’s ALWAYS a step forward, Thank You, johnm

hey, just wanted to point out that already there is a way to get the EFI boot screens on 5770, though you need 2 of same/similar monitor.

I will futz around with 5870 some more, maybe some combo of connections will do the same for it too.

The biggest problem I’ve had with those earlier ATI 5700 drivers (mentioned a month ago) and these is that it seems to make my screen go grey, or it gets stuck on the Apple logo, occasionally I might get video garbage, BUT…..I can still hear the pop sound if I change my volume and using my Macbook Pro, I can view my desktop via “Screen Sharing”.

If I remove all the ATI drivers, it will only let me view at a ghastly 1024×768 instead of 1080.

I would love to get my ATI 5750 card working on my Hackintosh. I guess in the meantime I’ll have to keep using my Macbook Pro.

Apple has the ATI 5770 and 5870 listed on their website, and believe it or not the prices are (aprx) on-par with what you’d pay for non-Apple cards. I guess Apple is tired of everyone flashing their PC video cards. However, I doubt these Apple cards will decrease in price when the PC ones do. :P

The price equivalancy may also mean that we get an EBC ROM loaded card. The design of the Apple branded 5870 appears to be of the SAPPHIRE 100290SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) type, only with 1 GB instead of 2 GB of VRAM. Kinda disappointing on the VRAM side, but still not a bad card in the least.

Here’s hoping that these cards are EBC so they can be used in 1,1 Mac Pros, even if that means a forced upgrade to 10.6.4. :)

1st The normal display port is that port now capable to drive resolutions above 1920 X 1200 like 2560 X 1440 etc ?

2nd I have a 27 inch iMac witch can be used as a monitor. The normal PC bios in the 5xxx videocard cant drive the monitor due an incomapatibility issue. A 4890 with displayport can drive it … but the 5xxx not. Will a reflash solve this issue too ? Thx man for replying…

    Successfully flashed a Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X.

The main difficulty was getting to a DOS prompt. In the end, I used the standard FreeDOS ISO file and burned it to a CD. I initially wanted to use a USB stick, but no matter what I tried, the Mac would not see it as a boot device.

When launching FreeDOS, select 1 to run FreeDOS, then 1 again to “install”. Select keyboard and then select LiveCD option.

Once at the command prompt, you can just plug a USB stick (it’ll mount in A:) with atiflash and the ROM file and get flashing.

Thanks Netkas and others and good luck on getting the EFI screen loading!

    Hello? Nekas!

I is a 2008 Early Mac Pro users!

First of all, thank you for giving me a great ROM created.

XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB Triple X graphics card installation was successful.

But also the boot logo screen (the gray Apple mark) does not appear.

To solve this problem, I tried hard, but there was no way to investigate the Internet.

Now the key issue of the 5770 saphire vanilla design card rom for the imac m5770 rom found out that it was built on.

Since that time I Radeon HD 5770 for Mac Pro start looking for the rom and the last one was achieved from netizens.

This is my graphics card is inserted in Rom file will not boot. Are scared of recognition.

Rom file and give it to Nekas Dual link DVI even see the boot screen to create a new Rom File help please?

Or until now how can I watch the boot screen?

I live in South Korea because of poor English language skills do not.

    I hope you can understand. ^ ^

    Thank you.

I have a Apple ATI 5770 in my hands along with a XFX ATI 5770, the Apple version is for a friend but I have a XFX currently running in my MacPro 1,1 but I would like to try to rip the ROM from the Apple ATI 5770 how do I go about this. I will post the ROM for everyone when I get it ripped.
