i am having problems with kernel 9.2.0 sleep/ wakeup.
i can put my hackintosh to sleep but cannot get it to wake up.
i did try the sleep kernel you provided but no luck.

can you tell me how i can troubleshoot?
i cannot determine what the logs say since when i hit reset on my box, the drive never had time to synch before rebooting.

    thank you

Does this work for AMD? I have the 9.2.0 by ToH from the Zephyroth DVD, but since none of the 9.2 kernels on netkas.org said AMD, I figured I’d ask.

    February 26th, 2008 | 10:19 pm

Also, what was wrong with the shutdown and reboot?

  5. pestana
    February 26th, 2008 | 10:30 pm

Yes “blackknight”, the is a problem with the shutdown for example on Asus P5K-E, they never shutdown well…

This fixed shutdown & reboot for me.

    GA-P35-DS3 v2.1
Kalyway install, efi_mbr, 10.5.2, AHCI enabled.

    However sleep doesn’t work.
Doesn’t bother me as I never use it.

    So Thanks, works great!

Same here. Shutdown and restart work fine, no sleep. Was the other way around before.

    P5K-E

  13. February 27th, 2008 | 4:34 pm

any settings for BIOS that would help me put my hackintosh into sleep mode?

  14. February 27th, 2008 | 5:08 pm

What is there not to get? This is a SpeedStep kernel, Sleep does not work with this implementation of SpeedStep.

If you want sleep use the sleep kernel… is it really that hard to understand?

  15. theStevo
    February 27th, 2008 | 5:45 pm

This kernel doesn’t have sleep mode. Please, be careful not to bug him on this point. He’ll get to it in his time.

Thanks for your efforts Netkas, but no joy on Asus P5B. Still have to hold power button to shutdown and restart doesnt work. Please continue working on this, I see that Asus P5K is fixed, so does other Gigabyte motherboards. Looks like it needs more refinement to support quirky boards like the P5B.
I am using vanilla ACPI Platform and SMBIOS from mac.nub

Yes, this kernel breaks S3. You have to use S1 (at least on my Intel BA2 board).

However, it fixed ALL of the problems I was having using the vanilla Kernel on 10.5.2, along with the new Macdotnub SMbios72. I switched to IDE Mode + ACPI S1 sleep and everything is great!

Damn, using the sleep kernel sleeping mode finally works, BUT now sound is choppy and my clock is running too slow!? I mean, when I start OSX time is fine because it syncs with the internet time server, but from that point I’m continously “loosing” time :-/ I think the new kernel has problems finding the right FSB speed? So I had to switch back to vanilla kernel.

    Hi

I downloaded the kernel, but I have no idea how to install it.

    Can U Help?

  41. March 4th, 2008 | 12:38 pm

    Thanks a lot! :-)
My P5B running a Conroe 4500 and Ati X1600, runs much smoother with the new speedstep-kernel.
Applications load almost instantly now, don’t know why, but great work.
Sleep doesn’t work with any kernel however, Display can sleep.

btw. is there any easy identifying a Kernel-Version before installing? I tend to get mixed up sometimes.

  42. vlad1966
    March 5th, 2008 | 12:21 am

OK, figured out how to update the kernel.
I tried 9.2 no speedstep – my Hack goes to sleep, but doesn’t wake. Had to hit the power button to turn it back on – fans went on full blast, nothing else happened – finally had to hit the reset switch – Hope shutdown will at least work consistently.

  43. Yuusharo
    March 5th, 2008 | 12:39 am

One thing I did notice on my DS3R board is sleep does work with my 8800GT when I use my efi gfx string (credits to netkas yet again) with little problem. However, when I reinstalled a fresh Kalyway 10.5.1 and updated with Kalyway 10.5.2 and kernel updates, and used NVinject instead of the GFX string, sleep no longer works – shutdown and restart do.

Grr, why is nvinject so buggy.

    March 7th, 2008 | 10:38 pm

Using the nes speed less kernel 9.2.0 both reboot and shutdown work well. But sleep doesnt wake up. can u tell me the solution please

    thanx indeed

    nstall 9.2.0 Speedstep Kernel

    1) Using Terminal, rename the “mach_kernel” (9.1.0) in root (/) directory to “mach_kernel_old”.

    sudo -s
    cp /mach_kernel /mach_kernel_old
    2) Move the “mach_kernel” (9.2.0) from your desktop to root (/) directory.

    cp ~desktop/mach_kernel /mach_kernel
    3) Repair permissions.

    cd /
    chown -R root:wheel mach_kernel
    chmod -R 755 mach_kernel
    4) Reboot.

I read a temperature via tempmonitor of 60 degrees per core on my Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 (G0 stepping), when idle. What could be wrong?

ATKOS v1.0i R3/stock kernel and Stock AppleACPIPlatform.kext; Hacked Combo to 10.5.2, Kalyway’s kernel package and Apple Graphics update; this kernel 9.2.0 with SpeedStepping; Natit extension for my Radeon EAH3870.

  47. Taufiq
    March 10th, 2008 | 2:49 am

OK. My P5B reboot/shutdown problem turned out to be NVinject(even EFI Gfx string has same problem). I have a Asus 7900GS card and Regardles of NVinject version, and any version of kernel, reboot/shutdown is broken. If NVinject (or EFI Gfx string) is removed, shutdown/reboot works fine even with Vanilla Kernel, but no QE/CI and stuck at 1024×768 :-(
Keep up the good work Netkas.

  48. Alan
    March 10th, 2008 | 11:39 am

Same here, if i remove Nvidia GFX card then shutdown will works.
i guess ATI users the shut down will work for them.

    March 26th, 2008 | 4:29 am

    Hey Netkas,

any idea why USB ports wont work using this kernel. With the stock kernel, I had everything running smoothly except shutdown/restart. After installing this kernel, shutdown, sleep works (with S3) but anything I connect to USB dont get picked up unless I restart, when everything is picked. This gets very problematic when using USB thumb drives. I have seen this problem before as well with modified kernels.
    iATKOSv1.0 install on GA-965P-DS3 and Q6600, 8600 GT (256MB).

Any clue? I will really appreciate the response.

I can run the 9.2.0, but I have to boot with every USB/FW device or else they won’t work. What I mean is that when OSX is up and running and I hotplug a USB device in, it won’t work, whereas it did before I upgraded. Any known workarounds?

  60. zhimama
    March 26th, 2008 | 7:18 pm

Actually, in my situation was before applying ACL8889 Audio kext, this shut down kernel seem worked on my p35( ICH9R ) Board with Kalyway 10.5.1.
But, after patched audio ( now audio works ), but shut down never works again….

    any idea ?

    March 27th, 2008 | 4:32 pm

Dont forget our 9.2.2 hacked kernel please netkas… some of us are having huge network problems that have been solved by this kernel but we cant use on a via chipset / pentium-D

  62. March 27th, 2008 | 8:33 pm

Unfortunately, this does not work on my Acer Aspire 5315.
Both shutdown and restart do not work.
    Also, usb didn’t work properly.
    I use iAtkos 10.5.1 + 10.5.2 comboupdate and efi emulation i think.
Had to put back the previous kernel.
Hope there will be a definite fix :) .
Thanks for all the hard work anyway!

  63. March 28th, 2008 | 12:03 am

I would like to add, that my acer 5315 is sometimes suddenly falls out . it seems like a powermanagement problem. I have not been able to find a fix yet and wondered if anyone has.

I hope the Powermanagement issues and those will be solved.
It seems to be better with kernel option platform=ACPI though.
    Maybe that helps somebody.
    Thanks y’all!
