New smbios with one important fix.

Some users reported me coreplayer doesn’t work on hacks

after investigating it a bit, I found it comes from smbios

exactly – the way how  IOPlatformSerialNumber is set.

now it’s fixed, u can grab kext here –

this also makes second life to work on hacks.

ahh…. u all will have same serial number with this kext (as with old one tho)

funny thing – some apps uses this values as user number.

    Great work netkas, as always!
I’ve read somewhere that SecondLife is one of those apps that uses the serial number in some kind of way. It refuses working with the old AppleSMBIOS – with this new one, it works like a charm. ^^

Thanks again – keep up the great work!

    Seems to work good.

The only thing ive noticed is that my memory doesnt show up correct in System Profiler.

Netkas, would it be possible to add so that it autodetect it or could you release the source for this kext so i could just hardcode it inside.

    Keep up the good work.

    >ahh…. u all will have same serial number with this kext (as with old one tho)

This could be a problem.. Is there a way we could help in fixing this? I had a look on the iGuru source, but I’d like to see your changes and see if I can implement a generated SN, eventually based on the motherboard SN.

    “Core player” == core image?!?

AFAIK, there’s nothing related to OS X by that name.

Under System Profiler memory now gives “There was an error retrieving this information”.

Netkas, if you can make an AppleSMBIOS with the Second Life bug fixed PLUS working memory display, proper boot ROM name, Mac Pro identifier and memory speed set to 800 DDR2, I will give you my soul.

Thanks for this. On my asus p5w-dh with 10.5.2 and vanilla kernel, it can show memory speed and fills out various stuff in apple system profiler. Unfortunately for my set up it stops sleep from working. It won’t go into sleep properly and will not wake up. When I replace original AppleSMBIOS.kext I loose all of the System Profiler info but sleep works properly.

Hi guys, just wanna report that I installed this SMBIOS and “back to my mac” is not working as well as it was before… anyone else see that?

  28. May 7th, 2008 | 11:11 am

Hi and thanks for your help to all fo us netkas,
I installed your latest kernel (9.2.0 kernel with fixed shutdown, UPDATED ), fortunately speedstep works, but I’m still a newbie and still have doubts that hopefully some of yours can reply. What benefits would I get if I installed this smbios? Should I do that? What happens if I don’t do it?
    Thanks people

Thanks for fixing the Final Cut Log & Transfer bug with your SMBIOS. Problem is it is back in 10.6 . Chameleon 2 and plists does not fix it, or I don’t know the entry needed. IS it posable to create a new 10.6 updated and fixed SMBIOS?

    Thanks you

  35. keks
    February 3rd, 2010 | 12:18 am

yes please 10.6 version is needed final cut pro is not starting so I have to remove the AppleSMBIOS to get it to work… but then get some KP dorring boot and slow boot but at least FC work… so a fixed 10.6 would be great along with SMBIOS efi to fix about this mac crash

Hi netkas, top job. I have use this on my vaio with 10.6.2 because “system Profile” crashed always and now it works, obviously only in 32 bit mode. So can you mod new AppleSMBIOS for 64 bit like you do with version posted here?
It’ll be amazing and very useful.

Only another thing: if you can, can you let the possibility to user of set his, own Serial number and Boot rom version?

I hope you consider my request 😉

    Thanks so much
