Radeon 6xxx OSX support status

As of 10.6.6 beta release, atiradeonX3000.kext – the accelerator, it sets up card and provide bridge for using hardware accelerated opengl/quartz extreme/core image.

So, ATIRadeonX3000.kext supports radeon 6xx0 series card (already released 6870/6850 and upcoming tomorrow 6950/6970).

But, OSX still missing the framebuffer driver for 6xxx series. Framebuffer drivers sets up output screen, manages resolutions, multiple displays, does power management and etc.

Fantastic. Can you keep us updated on if a future 10.6.6 beta ends up including a framebuffer.

I was just wondering, if there’s any support (or going-on work) about the ION GPUs? I mean GT218 (for myself) and all those ranges…

** Keeping an eye over here for a long time, admiring the good job 🙂

Wow…Apple being fast in supporting new videocards?
That is a first. And I just ordered the 5870…..

Planning to build a dual-boot machine in January when
Sandy Bridge comes out: what’s the status of OSX support
    for the GTX570 and GTX580 ?

Currently have a Radeon 5850 running fine with 10.6.5 (using
Multibeast’s chameleon-rc with experimental ATI fixes),
but the ATI cards/OpenGL-drivers don’t seem to play very
nicely with Second Life (with shadows enabled), so still
    looking for a better solution.

Thanks for all your great work!

Any news on support for new ATI mobility cards?

Frank: Forget about it. These are not built into any Mac, so there is almost no chance of support.

I am now using VAIO EA38, and the videocard is ATI Radeon 5650. How can I find thr proper kext for this videocard? Thank you!

hey netkas, i have never tried ATI cards,

i always just stuck with nvidia, It appears you get more for less money with ATI,
do you agree? also, it kind of seems like every update breaks the ATI cards.

what ATI card are you using currently sir?

You rock! Keep up the good work! Hope that the 6970 Ati drivers come soon. Used to run a 5870 but sold it to buy this card. Tried the 580GTX but wasn’t impressed, overpriced card. Ati Rocks too!

So, if someone happened to have the developer seed of 10.6.7 which directs testing at graphics drivers, where would he look to see if there might be support for Radeon 6xxx devices?

Just asking for someone legally distinct from me that may or may not have signed an NDA in order to get developer seed access…

Have been experimenting with Lion’s ATI6000Controller.kext. Gives res change/mirroring etc. but still no QE/CI. Would be happy to help test.
