And……..GTX570 works in Lion DP4

Our member Rominator just confirmed it, GF110 based card, Nvidia GeForce GTX570 works in Lion DP4.

He tested it on MacPro using ATY_Init, 32-bit kernel and nvidia “helper” efi card in slot-3.

Wow, that is truly fantastic news! One of my biggest hopes for 10.7 would be that, along with (at last) a substantially enhanced graphics system and at least somewhat modern OpenGL support there would be a bit more support for the latest Nvidia and ATI cards. 5xx support, even with hacks, for my Mac Pro would make me a very happy camper. Thanks again for your (and all others, Rominator of course) continued hard work here. It’s really appreciated.

I’ve also had my 2x GTX 570 in SLI working on DP4 (hackintosh) since it was first seeded. Just using 64bit ATY_init so that it shows up correctly and the device ID inside of NVDAGF100Hal.kext. Also had to remove AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext so that the performance is a bit better.

Will post the piccies later when I get home.

does it actually work tho or does it crash like most other fermi cards non-stop (in a hackintosh)?

It works fine, no crashes. I’ve been using it solidly this past week in DP4 with no issues at all. I will also post some OpenGL benchmarks when I get home.

I modified ATY_init to show the correct card info instead of “Unknown nVidia card” or whatever it says.

I also found that ATY_init was the only way to make it work. Using an EFI string it caused a kernel panic on boot, even when I had both cards specified in the string.

Oh and one other thing: the OS APPEARS to get stuck at “PCI Configuration Begin” but if you leave it for around 20 or 30 secs the OS boots anyhow. You just can’t see anything happening in verbose mode.

can we backport this to 10.6.7?

I have all the DP4 extensions for Geforce and NVRes in 10.6.7 and I can get 2560×1600 res but no QE/CI because I have to remove the GeForceGLDriver.bundle or I get a bluescreen at my desktop and a hang. If i pull that bundle then I at least get 2560×1600.. I am using a GTX 590 but i guess its close enough? with device-ids.. I also am using Chimera and it shows up in system profiler (the 590) but i also turned graphicsenabler=yes off and ran ATI_Init in 32/ and 64 bits but its no different.. still no QE/CI .. also hex patched GeForceGLDriver.bundle like one of the posts said (even though I think thats for GF100?) any help or direction to get this going in 10.6.7? Thanks!

I can echo Morpheus’ comment about long hang time.

This may have been part of why I thought it wasn’t working.

Zurie, did you add your device id to the NV100 next? Has to happen.

    June 14th, 2011 | 3:58 pm

yes sir, i added my dev id’s in but i’ve gotten so many kexts from so many builds I dont know exactly which ones I need.

i have DP4 / MacBookPro Geforce / and Quattro from the nvidia website. all 3 sets of geforce drives in different folders on my desktop and im switching them in randomly, in groups, all at once, etc.. all the NV100 kexts have my device ID. my card shows up in Display profiler and says GTX 590 with correct memory, ports, etc.. but i can’t get QE/CI working. If i remove the GeForce.kext or the GeForceGLDriver.bundle (either 1 of the two) i can get it to boot 2560×1600 no QE/CI but if both are present, then blue screen at desktop and doesn’t push all the way through… the macbook pro geforce kexts give me garbled black desktop. Also… do I need a second nvidia card as a helper??? do i need to plug into the GeForceGTX 590 after it boots? im still a bit hazy on some of those concepts. does my GeForceGLDriver.bundle require patching for a GTX590 or can i run it stock from Apple.

    Thanks!

I also tried porting over to Snow Leo and had the same issue with the GeforceGLDriver.bundle. There are obviously some incompatibilities with the Snow Leo frameworks. Maybe there are more kexts/frameworks to pull over such as AppleGraphicsControl.kext and maybe the OpenGL frameworks?? Seems like a bit of a far reach to me though.

Most likely we’ll have to wait for proper native Snow Leo support (which might not come with Lion coming out and 10.6.8 prolly being the last Snow Leo major update). With all this porting of kexts and bundles you might as well be copying the entire extensions folder and call it Snow Lion lol.

Let me ask one simple question.

    Does this have QE/CI?

Nothing I tried in 10.6.7 gave me this. I assumed from your OpenGL comment you have it, but I thought I would ask.

tried copying OpenGL.frameworks and it resulted in a backscreen on restart 1, on restart 2 i got the Login screen to show up (where normally autologin is enabled) and when I login it pushes back to the login window (fails to login with that GL.framework) replaced the framework with 10.6.7 framework and back to the same full res on QE/CI… so frameworks caused problems… also tried 2 other apple LION kexts that don’t seem to have any effect… probably something were missing…maybe the GeForceGLDriver.bundle needs patching like netkas did for GF100?

I just wont be happy until I can get a recent ATI or Nvidia GPU into my MacPro 3,1. I have a 285 GTX now, but quite honestly its feeling a bit slow and dated recently. I explicitly got a Mac Pro so I could upgrade the graphics every other generation or so, I am just disappointed Apple and the third parties seem to have just given up.

It says 570. If ya wanna bombard these hardworkin peeps with “great now get my 580 to work”…frankly you make me wanna tell you to f— off. Figure it out yourself or thank for the new info where thanx is more than well deserved…. Something atleast …jesus friggin christ. and btw THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT INFO

  22. June 17th, 2011 | 9:50 pm

Seconding: thanks a bunch for the info! You guys never cease to impress, and your work is much appreciated.

Nice info.. I’m just glad my ATI 6870 works with out doing anything.

Side note: lol man some of you need to kiss up on your own time. Its just TEXT relax ..life is so short..

    June 19th, 2011 | 8:45 pm

    @alienallan

FYI, the 570, 580, and 590 are the same GF110 chip.. and FYI, all of them work… I have a 590 and it works.. a lot others with 580’s also got them to work.. chill out.. 🙂 people were asking about 580’s or 590’s because we knew they were the same chip with the same driver.. just different device id’s

and for some informative info, I got my GTX590 to work with Graphics Enabler = Yes, Chimera Boot loader, NV100 with my device id’s, NO ATY_INIT, NO EFI strings, etc… and only works on DP4 / DP4+update, doesn’t work in 10.6.7

  25. June 20th, 2011 | 5:02 pm

@Zurie: I think asking is fine. Asking the same question over and over again, however, without providing any additional information or indeed doing basic research, doesn’t really help anybody.

Hi every one I hope some one can help me with GeForce GTX 580.
I have 2 graphics card one is ATI Radeon HD 5770 one GB, it works well.
After I installed Lion DP4 it shows like this

    GeForce GTX 580:

    Chipset Model: GeForce GTX 580
    Type: GPU
    Bus: PCIe
    Slot: Slot-1
    PCIe Lane Width: x8
    VRAM (Total): 1 MB
    Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x1080
    Revision ID: 0x00a1
    ROM Revision: 0x00
    Displays:
    Display Connector:
    Display Connector:

So it shows only 1 MB ram 😉
I don’t know how to get it to works.
I’m not good in adding ids to kexts never do that before 😉
    Please help.

    EVGA GTX 275 1795MB, 8800GT, Mac Pro 1,1, Mac OS X Lion

Tried to insert Kexts with NvEnabler : 275 Slot 1 on 16, 8800 in 2. 8800 in 3 – no recognize and kernel panic on start

Tried Injector with different Drivers : both slot combinations -> recognizes the card, but lists as unknown nvidia.

I have done several resets of OS X and put in hours and hours to get this working, but still no success.

Have re-and re-read these articles but i don’t know what to do different anymore.

Right in the beginning i used several of these methods at once and it did work. GTX showed up and tested normally. Yet i still had low frame rates on HD Video, so i tried updating the nvidia drivers, which totally crashed everything.

After reboot and fresh install of OS X i never came back to this point.

What to do guys? Help highly appreciated !!

MY GTX465 WAS FULLY FUNCTIONAL IN 10.6.7 BUT WASN’T IN 10.6.8 OR 10.7.0. I JUST USED KEXT UTILITY TO REPLACE ALL GEFORCE AND NV KEXTS IN LION WITH THE WORKING ONES FROM 10.6.7. AND NOW I’M 100% FUNCTIONAL. CL/QE IS WORKING. IN LION YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE DASHBOARD SPACE FROM MISSION CONTROL AND THEN OPEN IT THROUGH LAUNCHPAD TO GET WAVES.

Help! I have a GTX 570 that I added to NVHAL. I get full resolution and multi-monitor support, but OpenGL freezes/hangs unless I boot with -v.

Tried four different Chameleon versions, PC EFI, and Chimera. All display the same (or worse) behavior. Any ideas netkas?
