RadeonHD 4850 and Leopard, finaly!
using 10.5.7 beta ati drivers (jsut five kexts) and new natit, i got my 4850 working in 10.5.6 Leopard 
You need to have OSX 10.5.6 or higher
What’s working – qe/ci, resolution change
What Problems:
currently only second dvi port works for me, and only with dvi-vga adapter
also, Display is recognized as standart vga/svga display, so only 4:3 resolutions available
only usefull for VGA connections – with switchresx(before using it, make sure u can change resolution) help i added 1680×1050 mode jsut fine
EDIT3(for4850): booted with dvi2vga(converter only, no monitor attached to it) in second port, and dvi connected to first port(closest to mobo), and voila,
display on first port properly recognized.
some vertical little screen jerkness sometimes

User with 4870 reported he has almost no problems with 4870, he just cant change resolution, results in black screen
Btw, 10.5.7 kernel also supports Nehalem i7 fully now.
P.S. I hope no other company than Apple/AMD will pretend they wrote drivers for 4850/4870 or nehalem i7

i downloaded the drivers and installed it, (didn’t reboot) then used SwitchResX and added custom resolution of 1680×1050 because it still show 1024 x 7xx.. and when i restarted the comp and i try to boot it shows a split second of the os loading but then it doesn’t detect my display anymore, so can’t get into os. HOW CAN I FIX IT…?
if u booted and cant change resolution to any other – DONT USE swithcresx
well first after I installed the package I didn’t restart and wanted to change the resolution, but it only showed one, 1024×768 so I turned to SwitchResX and made a custom resolution.
But now I can’t even get into the OS and change it back. Any ideas how to fix this?

Just installed it. little screen jerkness sometimes it’s realy irritate me, cause it’s happen every 5-10 seconds. How we can fix it? =)

How about the geforce series 200 (Gtx 260-280-295)?
Installed on 10.5.5 (Intel) with HD4870, no problem at all so far!
It works! No errors, no jerkness, full QE/CI support.
Used 1st DVI-Port with dvi-vga adapter, resolution 1600×1200.

TRied on 10.5.6 with a 4870 512mb (Displayport, 2 dvi and hdmi) but neither of the dvi work… i mean i see the grey loading screen at os X boot but then the screen gets black. Any idea?

Can you try to do that OpenGLViewerBench with setting Musltisampling *4 ?
I get at 1600×1200 with ATI 3850 not much less (about 15% less) – FSAA*4 will show more difference because GPU+VRAM Speed is much more relevant.
Also i have an really good shader-bench, its an sceensaver (UB) that computes game of live algorithm on the gpu by shader coding. Shader speed of 48XX should be much better than older ATI 2XXX, ATI3XXX.

Set the GPU Lide Saver Options : deaktivate FPS Limit, zoom=1, let it run in fullscreen.
I get around 500 FPS, 1600×1200, ATI 3850 GDDR3. My ATI 2600XT friends much less, also NV 8XXX much less, because less shaders. Intel GMA works but ist like slide show – CPU must compute all
The Test is really CPU independend, doesnt matter if lowend C2D or Quad so much for the fps results.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION FOR THE SCREEN BOUNCING/JERKING FOR 4850
After trying many bioses I found the problem is on the clock settings, the memory must be the same speed in all settings, I found this using RBE and looking at the sapphire BIOS and the 4870 stock, so I put the same speed (993 MHz for memory clock) and it works!, this fix the kernel panic with the sapphire bios, and fixes sleep and resolution change. You still need to use the DVIVGA adapter.

Netkas, please post a screenshot of system profile > hardware. I want to see if see the cpu as unknown processor or core i7.
I get 1050 FPS with zoom=1 using 1440×900 resolution on an 8800GTS/G92.
Were you able to get VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop running with the i7?

i have hd4830 running 10.5.6 voodoo kernel, efi v9 on core i7 system with msi x58mb.
downloaded this package and installed but nothing changed at all on my system…is it not compatible with 4830? did i install it wrong? should I go out and buy the 4850? lol
i was having such a good night tonight, all 8 cores enabled…onboard sound working..lan…
now i just have to get this 4830 working and ill be all set!

Hi, I have a visiontek radeon 4870 with DVI, HDMI, and VGA ports. No luck on getting it to work, either blank screen after loadup or lightblue screen depending on what I have connected.
Anyone have any ideas on how I might get this to work?

Yes… My dual DVI output is working…
I had read all the comments about DVI output not working in 4850 (only with DVI-VGA adapter), but I rebooted the machine after package installation without removing the DVI cables to give me a try… And it works! =D

I can confirm that it works with a Visiontek HD4850
with Kalyway 10.5.2 ( After some tweaks, had to remove several ATI kext after booting -x) and it runs with QE/CI 4:3 max res
now I can finally run virtual machines : )
Works with mine as well. Have to use the dvi2vga trick though. Crashes if I try to use dual monitors with DVI.
I have HD 4870 and it’s working well but causing kernal panic during shutdown. This appears to be a kext issue. assistance appreciated.

hey…after posting here the other day and finding out that the 4830 didnt work yet…i decided to go pick up a 4850 to try…i got a visiontek.

I decided to try connecting both monitors..im using 2 benq fp93gx monitors..both connected via DVI.
i reset the computer and booted into osx..and they both work!!!
all of the modes work, i can move them around..etc.
I have the desktop extended right now, and im running a screenshare from my laptop and doing a diskcopy (both on the right screen)…main desktop and this safari window on the left screen…no problems yet..runs perfect!

Doesn’t work here. Blank screen (no monitor signal on both DVI ports). It screws up my config. I have iDeneb osx 10.5.5 installed with the 4850. Before I installed this new driver I had 1600×1200. Now, I won’t get beyond 1024×768

Any idea whether or not HD4830 will be supported on future releases? I’m shopping around for a new graphics card and the 4830 seems to fit my needs the best minus OSX86 support.

Hey netkas, i’ve installed this on my 4850 and i have the iPC 10.5.6 PPF6 running with the voodoo kernel. I keep getting these random KP’s though, sometimes when i go away for a bit or when i try installing something like WoW.

Previsuly card works without core image support and onlu on 1024/768 resolution..

Work only 1280*720 no DL DVI, 30CD plugged works only blue desktop, sapphire 4870 512 .
I got QE/CI now on my 4870, thank you VERY much. But one problem, I get the black screen error when I launch a game, any game, but not when I change resolution. Have anyone got some experiences with this error?
I am having problem with DL DVI too. Everything work except that. If I use 30CD as the only screen, I get all rubbish on the screen when login window tries to start. If I use 30CD as secondary display, I either get it working but only have max 1280 X 800 resolution on 30CD or sometimes if the option of 2560 X 1600 appears in System Preferences for 30CD then I get black screen on 30CD.
Working pretty well on my Gainward HD 4870 through the HDMI->DVI adapter (first DVI port is turned off). thanks!

Works well with a small problem: After going to sleep mode and starting again, it seems that the card will not be initialized correctly – the picture is broken. Any idea how to solve this issue?

It’s in CrossfireX, but I don’t need to remove the bridge for 10.5.6 to see two separate cards in Leopard.
My E8400 is running at 4.2Ghz, but Leopard on sees 3.8Ghz.
Hi, i had the blue screen flash problem on the dvi ports on my gainward 512mb 4850.
i solved it by typing in “-f -v” at boot and it changed to native resolution (1440×900) automatically and works fine.
Hello, I have a PC with MSI – K9A2GM V2 motherboard, Phenom II X3 720 CPU and Saphire 4850X2 2GB VGA. Installed OSx86 iPC Universal PPF5. It work pretty well, just I can’t make VGA to work. Is there any kext for 4850X2 or atleast a way to change resolution? Or 4850X2 is not supported at all and never will?

My system: AMD Phenom 9950 @ 2.6, MSI K9A2 mainboard, ATI Radeon 4850 (also MSI).
I was running iDeneb 10.5.6 @ 1024×768…downloaded your drivers, installed, them and now have 1280×1024 on reboot without even touching the Linux shell.
The only little catch is every so often the screen will look like it just shakes a hair, down then back up.
But I’m really glad I have the res. Thanks a lot for your work in this area!

I really don’t get my hd 4850 working in 10.5.7. I’ve already tried everything, any natit.pkg or driver packages. I’ve tried several combinations of kexts, for example natit and ATY_Motmot i found anywhere. I followed several guides but nothing worked for me. Can you help? i`ve tried with the drivers from ideneb 10.5.7 ( whith hd48xx drivers and resolutionFIX) and at the first time it works fine…. qe/ci and resolution change, but when i shutdown and star again it stops and looks like out of sync.

I was having a gray/funky screen when installing all the texts, so I decided to install them one by one. I have a Sapphire ATI Radeon 4830 HD. I’m not entirely sure if the order matters, but here’s the order I did them in anyways.
1) Natit
2) ATY_Init
3) ATINDRV
And that’s it. Hope this helps!
