Typical problems with PC EFI
I installed PC EFI, i use vanilla kernel, but after kexts loaded, it reboots, why?(I have c2d, intel-based mobo)
Check No Executable status in bios (NX/XD) it should be enabled to make vanilla kernel works, also
cpuid limit should be disabled.(and hpet should be enabled, if such option exists)
So… before I have to move the boot loader of 4 different oses, IS there anyway to change the default drive on boot_v5 from 80 to 81? Otherwise I’ll have a big PITA ahead of me… pls? Put me out of my misery :O
The inability to select the specific partition makes it very awkward in multiboot systems.
Eg, if you use grub from a linux/windows drive 0 to select drive 1 for os X. Additionally my OSX partition has a small secondary partition to use for testing , with Efi there’s virtually no way to boot into it.
i’ve install pc_efi_v52 and get loop reboots on my mobo Acer Aspire 5920G
i see ‘NX suported’ in win EVEREST4.0 and have no NX/XD settings in my BIOS.
how to check out if NX/XD realy enable?
Respect!
ASRock ConRoe-1333 (onboard RTL8169), takes very long to boot probably due to “Error: 35” and/or “IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out waiting to write kernel symbols”… any idea how this can be fixed?

Have Intel 2 D915GUXLKR (1 is a gateway Luxemburg with onboard 1394a, the other is a retail Intel D915GUXLKR), Both have Intel P4 3.0ghz CPU’s, 64bit isn’t working and I get a lot of the following in the logs:
Dec 9 09:59:46 D915G kernel[0]: Package 0 didn’t get an HPET
Bios has nothing for HPET, but does for XD (it’s enabled)
Is there a fix???
Also, for the modified EFI SMBIOS kext, instead of hard coding a serial number, can you change it so it tests if the length = 0 and also check the first character for a ” ” and then assign a serial number if either of those are true?
Also another option would be to place the serial number if the plist so it can be edited?
Hey netkas, i just wanted to say thanks for all the support you have given the community, i dont know ho you find the time.
Anyway, i just wanted to see if you planned to clean up the pc_efi bootloader text, its not a big deal but was hoping for a cleaner boot process.
I will be putting v8 on a small ext3 partition so i dont have to enter 81 for the second hd all the time.
Again thanks for all the development you have done!
Adam

Hello sir! Thank you SO much for all your wonderful software and words of wisdom & instruction!
I have an odd problem I’m hoping you can help me with.
I’ve spent 1-12 hours almost everyday for the past couple months learning about & working on getting Snow Leopard to run on my core i7 (which is seated in an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 with the X58 chipset, Marvell 6121 SATA II (for IDE & e-SATA), dual-ethernet by Marvell, sound: ADI2000b – I’ve got 12Gb of ram, an nVidia 8500 GT (512Mb; DVI-VGA, lots of harddrives (SATA II, e-SATA II, USB 2.0, Firewire 400, IDE), a Pioneer DVD-R 113LS (IDE), a Multicard reader & a floppy drive.)
I’ve made lots of mistakes, but learned an enormous amount.
I finally got a stable installation of Leopard & Snow Leopard with basically everything working properly- after numerous failures and re-installations… I was having some trouble with Windows 7 & needed to install XP so I unplugged all my OS X drives (after booting in each one just to confirm “no errors/issues”). Eversince I plugged them back in- NONE of them will successfully boot. It always hangs after:
IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 64:87
IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 88:111
Does the same thing when trying to boot with installation CDs. I’ve tried SO many things- including BIOS settings, etc. None of the tricks & techniques that previously worked are making any difference…
Any ideas?
I have a problem with my Acer 5230 and SL 10.6 installed. Somewhere i found your article of Acers having the problem not being able to boot because of freezing before mounting the HD. My problem is that 10.6 freezes after a while of non-activity. The fix with replacing ” root” with ” Safe Boot” doesnot work. Do you have any suggestions please ??
Hi, I have a BIG question, I have a P4 540 3.0, 2GB ddr, 7950GT, when I boot installer DVD hazard 10.6.2 it boots 64 bits !!!!!! and in system profile says I have a Core Solo, so why when I use the system it shows me unknown CPU ?????
what I did was replace chocolate kernel for mach kernel but it never booted, and it reseted half my bios preferences.
Is it possible what I say or not ??????
Thanks for the hard work
Hi,
I’m trying to get my 5770 to work in my hack with PC EFI. I always get a KP when I install the graphics update. Any ideas?
Thanks,
